Wonderful!!     On: 2009-11-23

My little girl loves this pack. She really enjoys being outside. I have a lot of hiking trails near my home that would be impossible to use a stroller and she gets heavy carrying her in my arms. With the kelty pack there is plenty of room to store extra diapers, wipes, snacks and water. When I carry here on my back it is much more comfortable and we can go more places. The only drawback is that I cant see her very well behind me. The kelty pack is very sturdy, and comfortable. I am an XL guy and my wife is an XS woman, the kelty pack works very well for both of us. My wife does have to have help getting it on her back but once its there she has no problems.
Great carrier, but does not come with the sun/rain hood     On: 2009-11-12

I just received my FC 1.0 carrier today. I was very excited that it was comfortable for my small frame of 51" and my 3 yr old son fit well in it. However, I looked for the sun/rain hood which is shown in several pictures and also on the tag of the carrier, but didnt see it. So I looked on the Kelty site and found that the hood is sold separately for $35! I could have bought the FC 3.0 instead for $189 and I would have got the hood all inclusive in it! Its too bad that the specs do not make it clear that the hood is not included and the pictures are misleading.
We love it!     On: 2009-11-09

Just received this as a gift and we love it. We had tried to use the Baby Bjorn (worn on the back) for our 7-12 month old and she hated it (in her defense, it looked very uncomfortable for her). We werent big fans of it either - shes just too heavy (20 lbs.) and the straps are too unpadded. The Kelty 1.0 is incredibly comfortable, easy to use, and sturdy. We hiked for two hours this weekend and my husband said it was barely noticeable. It also has a surprisingly large storage pocket in the back.
I'm suprised at the positive reviews!     On: 2009-10-09

I bought this carrier to carry around my 8 month old baby. It is so painful to wear. My back and shoulders ache no matter how I adjust it and I am not a weak person. I emailed Kelty for suggestions and they dont care to respond.
Great Pack     On: 2009-10-01

This pack is great. I am a six foot tall male and it fits me and my much shorter wife very well. Excellent quality, kid fits well and stays put. Very comfortable to wear for hours at a time while hiking. Highly recommend.
This will carry a 3-year-old.     On: 2009-09-30

This is a great carrier. I bought it for a trip to Costa Rica that well be taking in November, however, I tried it out with my mischievous 3-year-old while mowing the lawn. She loved it! It was pretty comfortable for about an hour and a half of hard labor. After a short break, I would have been able to put it back on without a problem. I wasnt sore the next day at all. It has great support and fits most bodies large or small. It has lots of adjustable straps and also sits upright on the floor. It is a large carrier for heavy-duty jobs, so storage space is required.
Freedom to hike again!     On: 2009-09-13

This is an awesome carrier - who needs the fancy extra roof on the other models?! We did our research, comparisons, and budget review, and felt this was worth the money. Totally right! We bought this for shorter hikes (1 hr to half day) in rural Arizona and its perfect for our needs.

First, this pack is completely and easily adjustable. The shoulder straps, waist strap, and child restraints are all easy to adjust. As a result, the backpack perfectly fits myself (55") and my husband (511.5"). Our 13 month old daughter (21 lbs) seems very comfortable in it - she actually fell asleep during our last hike. This pack has also been surprisingly useful for vacuuming the house and cooking dinner if the babys being fussy. She loves being close to us and being able to see everything around her.

Other favorite features:
- ample cargo space under the kid to carry snacks, water, diapers, jacket, camera, etc...
- cell phone size pocket on the waistband for mom or dad
- comfy, well-padded shoulder straps and waist band
- auto-deploy kickstand
- entire pack is very light weight

Downsides: We wish there was a larger pocket or water bottle holster for the parent on the waist band. Since theres not, you have to take the pack off in order to access anything that doesnt fit in the cell phone pocket. Also, you wouldnt be able to wear this pack with a pregnant belly.

Mommy likes this, Daddy likes this, baby likes this... This is a well-constructed pack that looks great and serves its purpose well.
happy we went with the 1.0 (vs.2.0 and 3.0)     On: 2009-09-06

Debated between the more streamlined 1.0 and the pricier models, and this one turned out to be perfect for our needs (we use it for long day hikes, sometimes strenuous, or instead of a stroller if were out and about). There is ample storage space on this pack--a large mesh pocket, a pocket on the belt for easy access, a large compartment underneath the childs seat. It doesnt transform into a diaper bag with a changing pad like the other models but now that we have this one that feature seems unnecessary for us, at least. We can fit all our supplies in the storage compartment (for longer overnight backpacking trips the additional zip-on storage on the $$ models might be useful, who knows).

Our baby (18 months) is really happy in this, its much more comfortable for her at this age than the Ergo, plus she gets a better (higher) view. Theres enough room that she can sit back and have a bottle without it touching our backs but shes also been comfy enough to fall asleep leaning forward and resting her head on her fathers back. Also she can either let her feet hang or keep them tucked in. The babys straps are wide and well-padded but the design is breathable, shes worn short-sleeved shirts and weve had no problems with chaffing or the straps cutting into her skin.

I would suggest buying the sun canopy (the 1.0 doesnt come with it). Kelty, it should be part of the package!
Really Good Pack     On: 2009-08-18

My husband really wanted a backpack for our son, he had been using my front pack and didnt like it. So, we did some checking and decided on this one. We are very happy with this backpack and have nothing but good things to say about it. It is comfortable for both of us(he is 63" and I am 56"), it is sturdy, easy to clean, and priced decently . The baby pouch is nice and secure and well padded so when our little one falls asleep I know he will be comfortable. The extra pocket on the bottom is bigger than I expected and great for storing wipes and diapers and those extra items you want to have handy. I would purchase this pack again in a heartbeat and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a simple, easy to use, comfy pack.
Very Lightweight     On: 2009-07-04

This is very lightweight. I have a 13 year old and back when she was a baby, this thing was sooooo heavy, that I basically never used it. I was reluctant to get another one this time around, but I went to a store and saw how lightweight it was - I was convinced! I carry my baby around in it, and actually get some housework done! She loves it and never complains when shes in it, even when shes in it for a couple of hours at a time. If it were up to her, shed be in it all day!
I LOVE this thing!
Love this product!     On: 2009-07-01

We are very happy with this product...glad we did not buy the fancier, more expensive one, this is all we need. Also, the price here was MUCH better than at REI. You might want the sun cover, though, and that is a pricey add-on.
Works great     On: 2009-06-29

The pack is confortable and my son loves riding in it. The under seat storage is very useful as well.

Great child carrier. A little big, but the kids getting big too, I guess. My husband loves it, and it provides great support.
Well thought out, functional product     On: 2009-06-24

We were very pleased with this purchase. Although this is our first child carrier so we dont have anything to compare it to, we really enjoy this one. Our nine month old loves it, so it must be comfortable for him. He even falls asleep in it! The carrier seems to be well built and should last a while. The storage compartment is roomy enough for anything we would be carrying with us. Cant beat this for the price, we love it!
Great Lightweight Pack     On: 2009-05-25

We bought 2 of these packs, one for our 14 month old and one for our 3 year old. The pack worked great for both of them. We did some strenuous hikes through Zion National Park in Utah, and the pack was fairly comfortable for the whole time we were there. These were definately worth the money.
Love this carrier     On: 2009-05-12

We got this carrier because we wanted a nice frame carrier but didnt need all the extras of a $300 pack. Im glad we got this one, it was well worth the $90 sale price and then some!

It adjusts in many ways, both for baby and parent. It fits my husband and I both; I am 51" on a good day and he is over 6. It fits our 18 month old son very well, Im sure well be able to adjust it so he can sit in it for quite awhile. Once I got it adjusted correctly (I missed the waist belt adjustment at first - it moves up and down and there are latches to hold it in place) I barely felt his 27 lbs on my back. And this was the cheapest carrier we could find that can hold up to 50lbs, which means hopefully he wont grow out of it too soon! The storage compartment is not huge, but is more than enough room for a few diapers, wipes, even snacks. The best part is that my son loves riding in it, and keeps trying to get back into it after we get home!

The only negative Ive found so far is that I wish the waist belt had a little more padding in the back like some of the more expensive carriers. However, where more padding would be there is mesh instead, so we might actually end up being glad for that as it gets warmer out.
Love it!     On: 2009-04-28

I had another brand of carrier before getting this one. This one is very comfortable. I use it with my 6 month old and she absolutely loves being in it. I am very happy with this purchase.
The only complaint that I have is, it should have come with the sun/rain cover, I am going to have to spend another $35 on that, but I knew that when I bought it.
AMAZING     On: 2009-04-13

This carrier is perfect. I have a large 2 year old, he is just over 30 pounds and very tall, and he fits perfectly in here. I am by no means an avid hiker, and I carried him for hours with no problems, in fact, when I first put it on with him in it, I had to turn around to make sure he was still in there. It felt like I was carrying an empty backpack! Its fantastic, highly recommended. The orange color is great too!
Amazing pack!     On: 2009-03-08

We purchased this pack prior to our trip to Ireland. We have twin boys and my wife planned to use her sling for one of our boys. I decided to invest in a carrier for the other child.

This is an amazing pack and is much better than some of the other packs we have used. The frame is sturdy and stable when on the ground. The adjustments for the baby were easy to make. The baby was extremely comfortable during the time spent in the pack. The pockets and compartments are very useful for keys, maps, cameras, snacks, etc. We are going to order a second carrier for the other twin :)
Kelty chiild carrier     On: 2008-10-13

Excellent for light to moderate duty child carrying. Very good for in city and suburban use, rather than Sierra camping. Worth its price.
Great Carrier     On: 2008-07-31

First the positive...
Ive never backpacked before; but I do carry my 9mos old daughter everywhere I go. The standard back and chest carriers that rest on the shoulders just hurt too much. This framed carrier is great and very comfortable. The back padding to excellent and waist belt can pulled extremely tight and also very comfortable with plenty of padding. Ive hiked several trips now carrying my 20lb daughter, camera, 1/2gal water, and snacks (sum = ~30lbs) for appox. 1-2hrs at a time. The pack/carrier stayed in place and secure the entire time. The frame does a good job transferring all that weight to the hips.
The kickstand is great to temporarily relieve the weight. My baby can sleep comfortably while we hike for hours without straining her neck. The under seat space is more than plenty for mom, dad and the babies supplies for a day hike. Very light weight carrier.

Then the criticism...
The buckles are too difficult to tighten and too easy to loosen. But they stay where they put during a trip.
The under seat storage compartment has a partition that is annoying, it just makes it easier to lose small cell phones etc behind the partition flap.

A must have for parents on the go!     On: 2008-06-28

My husband and I both love our Kelty FC 1.0. We use it all the time to go for walks through cities, on the beach, hiking, etc. It is lightweight and comfortable to wear if you adjust it properly. My son (10 months) is also a huge fan. He loves being high up and involved in what is going on. We always get a lot of comments and questions about it, which gives me the impression that these carriers are a best kept secret. I encourage all parents of an infant (I would recommend 6 months or older) or toddler to invest in one of these for your days out. I still use my stroller for shopping, but this is much better for days out with family.
This carrier will fit a three year old     On: 2008-04-03

I have been trying to find a carrier that would fit a three year old as my daughter still loves to ride in one, and we enjoy the freedom to go hiking. I have a Sherpani Superlite which I absolutely love except that my daughter would not fit in it anymore at two. The straps are too short, otherwise that one is great. I also tried an older kelty model which would not fit a three year old. The FC 1.0 is not quite as comfortable as the sherpani, but for the reason I stated I would recommend this carrier. It is also very roomy, easy to put a child into and quite comfortable for them.
