HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE - STAY AWAY FROM COLEMAN! On: 2007-11-08

I purchased a Coleman rechargeable quick pump along with a Coleman inflatable air mattress for use when guests visit. Normally I would only review the product under the relevant Amazon page, but I feel this review is relevant to all Coleman products as it relates to their customer service policies.

After using the Coleman rechargeable pump two times, it died. It wont recharge; it wont even turn-on.

When I called Coleman to ask about warranty information for the pump, they responded with "We dont actually make that pump, we just put our name on it so we cant help you," and then they hung-up the phone!
I called them back right away, and got them to give me the number of the company that does manufacture the pump and when I called it, it was a disconnected phone number! Coleman does not appear to care at all about the quality of their products or the concept of customer service. I will NEVER buy another Coleman product again. I understand that products break from time to time and that can be forgiven, but no company should treat their customers this way.

I urge everybody who is considering the purchase of any Coleman products to boycott this horrible firm. By their own admission, they dont even make the products, they just pass them off to consumers. You deserve better than Coleman!!!
Great for 2 people

I bought this for camping to share with boyfriend. I got tired of rolling into boyfriend w/ dog rolling into me on other side. This solved the problem w/the dual chambers. Only problem I had was it got punctured on one side(not a manufacturer error). This is a great product especially if youre sharing it w/ someone else.

1 side didn't hold air after a couple hours of use..
by: superclaud8 On: 2007-05-21

after our second night on it, one of us was sleeping on the floor, mind you, the first night it was only used for 2 hours. one reason we bought it was b/c a previous reviewer claimed to be 300 lbs and slept on it comfortably with his wife who was a lot smaller. therefore, we thought it would work out for us, but it infact did not. would also like to add that we camped on polo fields, on a predesignated camping site, so it was not the type of conditions that would cause it to pop.

We have purchased many camping beds over the years , but I can truthfully say - this is the best one that we have ever had! We used it for 12 nights in a row and never had to add any air at all. This is unheard of for an air mattress as many campers know! There are two individual compartments of air which was a big plus as one of Us weighs more than the other. We never hit ground once. (even at 235lbs). Another plus, it is made of a sturdy material with flock on the top side. Mind you - stick with Amazon............we ordered it from Coleman Direct origianlly for an Overseas visit and it took 1 month to get here!!!! (and many phone calls) Amazon was 3 days.

Stays inflated for extended time. Meets claims for less bounce and no rolling to the middle. Liked it, bought 2.

Very comfortable

We bought this airbed to take camping with us. The kids had outgrown the sleeping on the ground and they took our original twin/king air bed. I have to say, this is a very comfortable mattress. My husband and I are not small people and this bed stayed totally inflated for 3 days and kept us comfortable and sleeping like babies. Very durable. On ly thing i can say against this mattress is that it is a Queen and we are very used to our king size bed.

Both comfortable and strong On: 2006-04-22

Dual chambers greatly reduce the movement you feel from the person next to you. Not only that, with traditional air mattresses if two people sleep together the middle tends to sink and you both end up rolling into the center. This mattress doesnt do that because of the two chambers.

We have used it camping 10-20 times and a once or twice indoors for guests. In fact one night I was tossing & turning and my husband couldnt sleep. I woke up the next morning to find him sleeping like a baby on the air mattress!

Through all our camping trips it stayed fully inflated until morning and it got treated rough at times. Eventually it got a hole...BUT... that was because I tried to scare my cat by jumping on one end while he was asleep on the other. Whew, did it ever work! I hopped on and the cat went flying... unfortunately his claws dug DEEP into the mattress during the process! (it was worth it though!) Poor guy.

So...the hole was entirely my fault and I am off to buy another before the camping season starts! No complaints here.

i bought 4 mattresses in july..it is now august and 3 of them have punctured. I do not advise anyone to get these...also one side would always be less pumped up than the other
Coleman Comfort Bed is a winner On: 2004-10-25

I purchased this after my husband and I had decided to "save up" for a spendy "select comfort" bed - as our old memory foam bed had "bit the dust". Weve been using it about 8? months now - and purchased it at local retailer. Weve had a couple leaks (mostly slow leaks) and have slept on it every night for these past 8 months or so - and not had any complaints - considering it is an airbed. We use a "memory foam" mattress pad on top for added "comfort" - but otherwise it is very nice - best nights sleep weve had in a long time - even before when we had the memory foam mattress - dual chambers are great - and it really works well for those who are prone to dust mite allergies as it can be easily wiped down with cleaning solution often and made back up. Inflating works well with our electrolux vacuum - less than 3 minutes and were good - and we really only have to add air maybe once a month - and the VLP (vinyl liquid repair) works if we discover a small leak. Were not sure we want a select comfort now - maybe another one of these in a few months - as there does get to be a "dip" sort of after a while in each side - but nothing like a regular mattress gets after a while - and we use it on a regular box spring - for height purposes. Hope this helps everyone. The only reason I gave it 4 vs. 5 stars is because I dont like the fact that we dont have a "controller" to inflate it more or adjust the level of air in each chamber - but I guess thats what the other 800-900 dollars is for on the select comfort! (PS: We both have bad backs and the chiropractor cant believe we get a good nights rest on this bed - but is impressed with how well we do with it!)

Oh - I forgot to mention - we sometimes take it with us when we go to stay at relatives etc. so we can have our "own" bed like at home and not have to deal with inferior beds. And the dual chambers do work like they should - limiting transfer of body movement and heat - and to avoid "vinyl squeaking" from the mattress against the boxspring we have just used a flannel blanket to "buffer" - otherwise it would make noise everytime you roll over - but doesnt with this little trick.
Comfrot Control is lacking in comfort On: 2004-08-12

Bought this product for my sister and my brother in law, was optimistic abt the fact that it had two independent chambers so that my 250lber brother in law and my 100lber sister could have a restful sleep over the holiday seasons. The independent chambers are hard to operate with less than intuitive instructions. The chambers were not truly independet because the second chamber shared with the first chamber a portion of the side/head/leg rest.....Moreover, the darn thing leaked in the morning, so my poor sister was virtually sleeping on the hardwood floor by the morning. This is definetely the last Coleman air bed purchase for us.
I'd buy more and more of these On: 2003-10-23

I purchased the coleman bed after reading the reviews on this site. I was more than impressed after using it more than once. The two air chambers is an excellent idea and the double valve helps so air does not get out when you are finished blowing it up.
Two (air chambers) are better than one! On: 2003-10-07

I can hardly believe its taken so long for someone to produce a two-chambered air mattress! (I must admit, the bright idea hadnt come to me either.)

I was thrilled to find one at my local retailer. Heres why: I am 6+ feet tall, closing in on 290 lbs, and have an internal heater that just doesnt quit. My wife is 54", weighs less than half of me, and tends to pile on the blankets. On conventional air mattresses, when I climb aboard, my wife is usually launched into orbit off the other side. The single air-chamber models mean we share body heat, which doesnt work particularly well temperature wise for either of us. Both of these issues are solved with two air chambers - I roast only myself, and my involuntary mid-night movements dont rattle the little lady. I should also mention that the dual-chamber design reduces the amount of movement one feels from the other side of the mattress significantly.

As far as construction quality, the mattress didnt seem to lose any air over a seven-night stay - yes, our guests got the "real" mattress. (Thanks hon.) This might just be the best portable imitation of a Select-Comfort mattress. It certainly seems to be the next best thing, and is the most comfortable portable/camping air-mattress Ive ever slept on... by a wide margin!

coleman air bed On: 2003-08-22

I purchased 3 coleman airbeds for my sister and her family of five. 2 of them were 1/3 full by the next morning. It was also a pain trying to inflate this thing, the thing kept on leaking after I pull out the pump from its valves, I much prefer the ones with a built-in air pump, I used them before at my friends place, they were much better at holding air and operations......Maybe I was just unlucky, but this is the last time I buy another air mattress under the Coleman brand.

Awesome Air Bed
by: Anonymous On: 2003-08-19

I bought this bed for overnight guests. Because I have never seen an air bed hold its air overnight, I was certain my friends would wake up on the floor. This bed lasted the night without any noticeable air loss! The first words out of one guests mouth in the moring was, (That matress was awesome!) My guests loved it and I am so happy I didnt waste my money on a more expensive matress.

After purchasing several different air mattresses, I finally found one that was both comfortable and sturdy. My granddaughter actually has uses it for a trampoline. Ive had this air mattress for close to a year, the others I had purchased lasted a maximum of two weeks without the family gymnast on it.
Great valves
by: Anonymous On: 2003-04-30

The valves are designed so that you can seal them before removing the pump, and no air escapes when removing the pump after filling the bed - fantastic!! I was not happy with my previous Coleman air mattress, which developed an impossible-to-find leak after only one use, but this one is a dream. Very comfortable, only needs a little topping off with air night after night. I have used the mattress about 10 times now, which is not a lot, so I dont know how reliable it will be in the long term as far as leaks go. Also, I am not a heavy person - I weigh about 110 lbs. With those cautions, I give this mattress two thumbs up.

Deep Breathing With The Mattress With Lungs
by: the_superstation On: 2003-01-09

I have to say that making this [purchase] was one of the most tragic renditions of reliance I have ever happened across.
The reason I say this is because the quality of this product is something akin to a bad joke. ... This became readily apparent the first day I bought the beast and started airing it up, ... See, the bottom - made quite durably and actually pretty impressively - is resistant as the bed advertises, but is differently designed than the top; something I expected but did not think would be so noticeable. While the underbelly could take a shot from just about any type of obtrusion, the upper portions could not hold the weight of the air that the bed professed to be able to withstand. In fact, within an hour, the stitching started breathing underneath me and quite literally ripping loose. ... Coleman was nice enough to provide patches and some superglue with the bed in case of an "emergency," lasting me all of two days. ... Here is something that defeats the statement, "you get what you paid for" because it isnt a faulty brand but is instead a faulty product. ...
