It held up extremely well under very heavy rains. We eventually threw a tarp over it in order to keep out the horizontal rain. It worked famously, and I bought it in-store for only 25 bucks!!! So for spending a total of 33 bucks I got a completely waterproof 10x10 tent with a clearance of almost 8 feet! At first I though it was going to be very hard to put up but after reading the directions, it took me and my girlfriend a total of 10 minutes to put up. THANKS FOR THE GREAT BUY! Rocket Science  by: Anonymous On: 2004-09-07 The little stickers on each pole which identifies which other pole it goes with dont stick on. Therefore, you are stuck with oddly matched poles with no direction of where they go. I was not using it for camping, but for backyard shade over a kiddie pool. The directions say it takes 2 people to put together, but I didnt have a spare adult handy and although, at first hesitant, was able to do it myself. It probably took me 25 minutes or so, no tools required. The poles all have stickers on them matching numbers found on the directions diagram. The trickiest part was putting the tarp on the frame, but if you follow the directions and do it before the leg poles are on, there are velcro tabs to help hold it in place on the roof poles as you pull it across. Put the legs on last and it works out fine. I didnt stake mine down, as it came with plastic feet for the ends of the leg poles and then I can move it around the yard (definitely need help with moving it because its pretty tall and awkward, but not heavy). It has kept rain off my husband while doing handyman work outside and kept the sun off my kids. The material is plastic-like and I dont expect to be able to use it for more than a season or two, since we have long summers here and it will deteriorate in the sun, but for the money it has been a great canopy! Also as noted by other reviews, it tears easily when exposed to the elements for even a day. Finally, during our first use, one (all plastic) corner bracket partially broke; during our SECOND -- and apparently LAST -- use, TWO MORE corner brackets broke completely. Spending even twice as much for a more robust, better designed unit will probably result in ten times as much satisfaction...and use. Good value by: Anonymous On: 2004-06-14 This inexpensive sun shade is a great rain shelter as well. We use it to cover our grill area when entertaining in questionable weather. It takes awhile to put it up (30 minutes is pretty accurate), and I do it myself without issue. I was surprised to see the reviewer below complain about needing three people to build it - that seems a bit extreme. For $35 bucks it does what it is supposed to. If you need an easier setup you can get one of the more elaborate canopies for $150-$200 or so that comes pre-assembled. But this is a cheap, easy solution. In my experience it is NOT a workable solution for a semi-permament sun shade/shelter. My wife and I received one less than a year ago as a wedding present (June 14). We asked for this item to give us temporary relief at the home we purchased because the patio cover had to be taken down due to the inspection results. We set it up in mid-July and left it up until early October. When we took it down last fall it had holes at every crease, and at the connections for the velcro wraps. When we put it up this March we put duct tape over all the holes/creases to reinforce it. Now the material cover has completely given way to the sun and it is, for lack of a better term, disintegrating. The material on the two sides which receive the most sunlight has collapsed and hangs down exposing holes which are at least 4 feet wide on one section and three feet on the other. We were hoping this would last us two years so we could replace the patio cover, etc but it is completely inadequate to that task. It might be useful for people who wish to use it only for a week or two each year, perhaps on a camping trip... I am a seasoned camper and have used several different tents over the years. This sun shelter took 3 people to set up. It is awkward and is impossible to set up alone and would be difficult to set up with 2 people. It took 3 of us over a half an hour both times we used it. |
