![]() Wenger Zurich Rectangular Sleeping Bag By: Wenger Average Rating: 3.0 Total Reviews: 4 More Information Great Summer Slumber This is a wonderful sleeper, but a bit bulky. I like the sheet that comes with the bag. Its nice that you can through the heavy part of the bag off you and sleep with just the sheet. The padded bag under you keeps you insulated from the cold ground. The hood acts a a pillow cover or light block when the sun comes up but your not ready to rise. The zippers do have some issues, but if your careful they are ok. I own one of these, and had to get a second since my daughter and I have fought who will get to use it. Nice affordable bag. Alan son is pleased My son is very pleased with his new sleeping bag....of course we havent tested it in cold temperatures yet. This was not what I thought it would be from the add. Ok, so this is an inexpensive bag, so the fact that we had to cut loose threads off along the zipper line could be expected. As one of the other reviewers stated the zipper is very poor, it does not work smoothly, even the first time, so that it has to be opened and closed carefully. I felt the advertizement that it came with a "liner" was completely false, and unfortunately this is why we purchased it. A liner should line the inside of the bag completely. This is NOT a liner, it is a single sheet on the bottom of the bag only, or if you wish to turn it over on the top side, but not on both sides. We wanted a bag for our sailboat that had a true liner that could be pulled out to be washed and reinserted, so that it could be used by a number of people throught out the summer without having to wash the bag itself. The way it is designed, even if you wash the liner, you still have the other unlined half that has to be washed in a front loading washer (which we do not have) and a professional large capacity dryer. We were getting ready to leave on our trip, and no one in town had a bag with a liner, so we were stuck with it. One thing I do like about it is that the bag comes completely apart. Not only can you zip out the single sheet, but the bag itself can be completely zipped apart into two halves. This means we can throw it on any birth in any direction and not worry about what side has the zipper opening, as either side can be unzipped. This was not what I thought it would be from the ad. For starters I CANNOT even attempt at telling you if this bag will keep you comfortable to its rating as I live and camp in TEXAS. So here is my review from my experience. This bag has been comfortable for use in early spring South-East Texas camping with the liner removed. Overnight lows near 40f. I am a big man of about 270lbs, 61" tall, and this bag is roomy, with enough room for me to not feel claustrophobic. This is an excellent bag for the price. The zip off hood is an excellent idea, as is the removable liner. The zippers leave a LOT to be desired. I honestly prefer Colemans Zip-Plow zippers. This bag is also not as light as it should be. But for the price that is a mere foible. Perhaps Wenger can produce a similar bag with DuPont Thermolite insulation to cut back on the weight, and stuffed size of the bag. I am looking forward to camping with this bag with just the sheet / liner this summer in the Texas heat as I am the sort that has to have SOMETHING over me when I sleep. I think this is just about the perfect bag for most folks. Hardcore backpackers / fastpackers and mountaineers will hate this bag due to its stuffed size and weight, but to be honest, it is no heavier / bulkier than my 15 year old Slumberjack 15 degree mummy bag, and it is a LOT more comfortable. If it werent for the size / weight of this bag, and the quirky, get stuck on the draft tube zippers, I would rate this bag at a 5. Wenger should improve the zippers, and offer this bag design with a micro-lite filler. I would gladly pay 3x as much for this bag with good zippers and lightweight stuffed down to football size stuff capability. |
