![]() Mountain Hardwear Men's Mountain Kilt By: Mountain Hardwear Average Rating: 4.5 Total Reviews: 6 More Information Mountain Kilt I have purchased two of the Mountain Kilts and two of my hiking buddies have also now purchased them also. Great item to wear on long hikes. My wife and others in ou party really like it when we wear our Mountain Kilts on our field trips and vacations. Not a "Kilt" A "Kilt" has a very specific meaning and has a very specific look. This is simply an outdoor skirt done in larger sizes and marketed towards men. A reworked women's skirt I was rather excited to find someone still carrying these, and now I see why many people do not. Although it is listed as a Hiking "Kilt", it has no pleats. It has the open end of the apron on the left (a kilt is on the right). Ok, that I knew before I ordered it, but putting it on its obviously not originally designed for men, just modified and relabled. BEWARE, these run VERY small. I got an XL and I normally comfortably wear an L in any hiking shorts or pants. The XL was so small I needed to fit in a different belt. Also, articulation is very poor compared to hiking shorts or any kind of real kilt, if I try to step higher than two feet at a time it binds up pretty badly. On the plus sides it was cheap, and it is very light fabric. It keeps down well in the wind. It would be nice if it wasnt so low at the hem though, even with the lightweight fabric its still warmer than my kilts because the hem is so low. COOL Breeze & a UNIQUE look!! Mountain Hardwear takes outdoor gear to a new level & this is an AWESOME product! I own a handful of kilts & this is a very welcome addition! Great for hiking & kayaking & will keep you very cool on the hottest of days. It is extremely comfortable & it is a pleasure to wear. There are two things that I would have like to seen added. The first is pleats to give it a more authentic look & feel. Also, I would have liked some sort of sporran just because it is a wee bit revealing when wet...if you know what I mean...& I think you do. Overall it is a great comfort & keeps you extremely cool & you will be hard pressed to find any kind of kilt of this quality for as inexpensive as this one is! They are great, get one...or two! Mountain Kilt I was very excited to receive the kilt once purchased. It is an affordable way to try a kilt out. This would be my first kilt and I had planned to break it in on a camping trip. The fabric and styling are great. Seems like a great garment. However, I was disappointed that it runs small. It is about one size too small. Had to return it. Other than the size it was great. the best bit of mountain kit I know As a Scotsman I have long known the benefits of the kilt - and its drawbacks, especially when it gets wet! This bit of kit, however, is the best darn thing since fleece was invented. I hiked the whole of the Appalachian trail in this and loved it. Sure, in town you get a few looks, but the whole idea is to be up in the mountains! There, you can combine with long runnning pants in the cold but it is the ease of use in general conditions, the lack of chafe and the ventilation that make this the first bit of kit I reach for. Its nice and cool for hiking and the inside lining at the hips feels soft and soothing against my skin. This is the first that I ever wore a kilt. I wish that I had discovered it years ago. The pockets are conveniently located and come in handy carrying small items such as trail bars, pocketknives and neckerchiefs. I cant wait to try my kilt on my next backpacking trip. It was also fine for canoeing and wading barefooted in mountain lakes. Come on guys you have to try this!
