Gerber 22-01463 LMF II Infantry Knife, Coyote Brown By: Gerber Average Rating: 4.5 Total Reviews: 24 More Information great product i would buy this knife again it does everything it needs to do around camp, very sturdy, the only thing the sheath is huge but with the sharperner and the leg straps i guess it needs to be, the calf straps are cool, because you can simply attach this huge knife to your leg and walk around, it messes with people which is fun A great knife for the price! This is one sturdy knife. I was able to split wood with ease and still hold a good edge. IT has a good weight and comes with a great sheath, with its own blade sharpener. The hammer edge also comes in real handy. Have not tried tying the knife to a stick but its a great option in a survival situation. Paired with a fire steel fire starter, makes the pair a great survival kit. Very good stuff Very sturdy and well balanced, it fits perfectly in my hand. Id still prefer a fine edge vs serrated but that only a small con. Ive only used it for light duty stuff but so far the blade has been pretty good. I like the integrated sharpener, easy to use. The sheath is also very well made and has many attachment options. Overall very good knife. One heck of a knife! First off, the size of this knife is bigger than I expected. This isnt going to slip into a pocket or be inconspicuous in any way. The sheath is rather large and has many diferent ways to attach to your person. The blade is thick and could only be described as heavy duty although it is not overly long. The handle provides a very secure grip. If you you were to go on a hike in a remote area, this would be one must have item along with food, water and signaling devices. The sheath has a nifty honing slot in it. I rate the quality as first rate. One of gerbers best This is one of Gerbers best knives.Buy one now because Gerber has a history of dis-continuing some of their best knives. This knife is a great value considering that it is as good a knife as the Trident series which cost much more. The only shortcoming of this knife is the sheath,Its for a molle vest and does not carry well for most. Some may see this as a plus, the constuction and material is first rate. The knife fits well in your hand, has a stout well shaped blade. The chisel point on the end of the handle is functional, but I wouldnt count on the hammer funtion, the flat is just too small. Outstanding tactical knife This is the best knife Ive ever had, period. I enjoy hiking for days in a row and having a good knife is probably the most important thing to have on your side (along with a good friend and map, of course). Pros: 1. Sturdy and well built with a great thick blade (you can use it as a hatchet if you hammer it with a stone) 2. Crafted *IN THE USA, YES SIR*: this is no cheap Chinese knock-off (sorry guys, you cant be great at everything) 3. Isolated butt-cap, which means that, if by an extremely unfortunate accident of life, you happen to dig into a electrical main, you wont die. (Apparently, this would be useful if youre into urban combat: thats what they say in the manual) 4. Comfortable grip material: it feels like your hand binds well to the knife. 5. Ships with a good sheath, very technical and complete with a neat sharpener: definitely a plus. Cons: 1. Weight (3/4 lbs) and size mean this is no man-purse knife. If the TSA folks catch you with that I guess you better have no plans for the following 3 days. 2. You need to sharpen it before using it. 3. My girlfriend freaks out when she sees the knife. Overall, a great knife for a wide range of use. Have fun! Great Experience Excellent Item at a great price. The knife is razor sharp, be careful. The Product is pretty much as described, it looks very rugged and Im sure will last a long time. Good but not for everyone This is a great knife. Sharp, Sturdy, and Useful. However it is heavy and bulky, not to mention hard to remove from the sheath. Sweet knife Very substantial blade, nice a weighty in the hand. Good for heavy duty chores, camping, and it just looks cool. Great knife at a good price very sharp and sturdy. Not sure Ill ever need to punch through my canopy but still a great knife. Good product My boyfriend wanted this knife for camping. Its actually bigger than we thought it would be, but still a great product. I would prefer a smaller, less cumbersome knife, but my boyfriend seems to like it just fine. SUPER NICE KNIFE This knife is much better than most of the junk youll run into out there. Ive trusted the Gerber brand of knives since my Dad bought me my first one when I was a kid. I returned the favor this time, buying the LMF II for him and you should have seen the look on his face! "Thats a very nice knife" I believe I heard him say several times. And another reviewer was correct, Amazon did actually ship this fairly quickly to Illinois via the Free Super Saver Shipping which can sometimes take a while on media products. They also had about the best price I could on it! Enjoy!! Solid heavy duty Defintily a heavy duty work horse knife, arrived with a very sharp edge, I rated four stars only because sheath is a little complicated but on the other hand i love the included sharpener, but it is a bit bulky orderd my son the sog seal pup and believe I like it better for size and comfort, although the gerber is alot thicker bladed and probably could handle a bit better in a survival situation, the sog had a better overall feel. IF your looking for a compact lesser "intense"use knife I reccomend something else but if your looking to dang near chop down trees then this is your knife Amazing knife I just ordered this knife (but in the Coyote brown) and I am nothing short of amazed. The balancing of the knife, sharpness, comfort of the sheath and the knife in my hand; all impeccable. I cant wait to go "man vs. wild" with this puppy. Truly amazing knife, Gerber does it again. I recommend it to anyone in the Armed Services (the coyote brown goes suprisingly well against Army ACUs) and the MOLLE compatibility only adds to the diverse wearing options. Wisest 80$ I have spent in too long. Only complaint was the damn plastic wrapping trying to get it open! =) Perfect Survival/Camping/Outdoor Knife This is a great knife and has no problems that I have found. It is extremely well-made, something that you can get simply by holding the knife. You can tell it is high quality, well-balanced, and going to do everything that Gerber claims it can. Has been put to test and has performed wonderfully. Knife sharpener in sheath is easy to use, although no instructions were included (all you do is stick it in and withdraw at a slight angle. you will hear and feel it sharpening). If spending anytime camping or in an outdoor environment, you cant go wrong with having this knife. More expensive than many others, but well worth it as it will last a long time and perform better throughout its life. Excellent Survival Knife I am a wannabe of the characters on satelite/cable shows like "Man vs. Wild" and "Survivorman," and I am one of those typical weekend camper/hikers. With that in mind, I wanted to invest in a fixed-blade knife (i.e., a survival knife) that would be rugged and durable in most outdoor settings and circumstances, be a good value, be of high quality, and last a lifetime. I did a fair amount of research using this criteria to compare and contrast other knives with the Gerber LMF II; and, in my opinion, this knife exceeds all reasonable expectations. I also am very much pleased with the Molle-attachable sheath; it can be lashed around the lower leg, thigh, or waist. A possible downside to the knife is its weight and length. Yet I would be hard pressed to imagine it being able to cut firewood from trees and branches or serve as a spear point or dirve a nail if it were not the size and weight it presently comes in. See the product description for more detailed information on the size and weight. All in all I am very much pleased with the versatility of the knife and would highly recommend anyone seriously consider having a look-see at it. A very good knife -- just right size I laugh when I see people carrying 12 inch (or larger) knives out in the wilderness, because those knives are just too big to do the things you need done -- cut rope for a shelter, whittle branches for a trap, clean a fish, etc. The problem with going with a thin knife is that the blade will just not hold up to abuse (e.g. hammering it into a small sapling or shaving off the bark of a cedar tree). Thats where the LMF II fits in nicely. Its very sturdy, holds (and takes) a sharp edge, and is small enough to keep you from accidentally cutting your hand off. My only complaint with the LMF II is the sheath. Its designed to stick to a Molex vest (think velcro) or strap to your calf. You can put the knife on a regular belt, but you have to get a small cord to tie it around your thigh, because the straps that come with the sheat are too large (theyll chafe your legs). Id love to see this knife come with a custom fit leather sheath. Otherwise, great knife. Definitely get one, you wont be disappointed. Please be kind enough to indicate if reviews are helpful. Written by Arthur Bradley, author of "Process of Elimination" - an erotic thriller that pits a martial artist against a world-class sniper out to shape the Presidential election. Way to big for an adventureing knife. I bought this knife mainly for its sturdieness and versatility. When i got it, i opened up the package and found that the sheith is so incredibly bulky and not monuverable i am returning it. Also the handle is of the most not ergonomic designs i have ever seen. This knife would not be good for anything but playing rambo and killing people Excellent Knife This is an excellent knife... well made, very functional. After buying this knife through Amazon, I took it out into the Sangre de Cristo mountains to rough it for a while and it was perfect. This is a knife for life! No Lightweight, But TOUGH! Just recd my LMFII, and have only used it to cut some poly line (did great). Initial impression is this is one durable, TOUGH survival tool. There are some inevitable trade offs... the wide, thick blade and large handle make the knife a little heavy (but a lighter knife would not likely be as strong); also, the handle is a bit narrow for my hand (but a thicker grip would be less concealable). The knife I recd is sharp for a factory edge, and the serrated section is a perfect length. The sheath and its removable straps, loops, etc. allow for carry in any way you want (leg, belt, thigh, vest, etc.). My initial impression is that this knife will outlast me, even with careless use. Id buy it again, if I had it to do over. Perfection with an edge I love this knife. I spent the last quarter century bumping around remote locations in Alaska sleeping on the ground, mushing dogs and hunting and fishing at every opportunity. During that time Ive bought dozens of knives looking for the perfect utility knife. If theyd made this one when I started, Id have never had to buy a second. Its sturdy, nicely balanced with most of the weight in the ample grip, the serrated section of the edge is actually long enough to be useful, and the straight edge takes and holds an edge nicely. About the only thing I wouldnt do with this knife is fillet fish, because the heavy blade is not particularly flexible. On the other hand, a stout blade is perfect for just about anything else. I suspect Ive found a companion for life. This knife is going to go everywhere with me, with the possible exception of commercial airliners, and thats not by choice. In Alaska anybody who gets on an airplane without a sturdy knife is a damn fool. strong, sturdy, great value i use my LMF II primarily for hiking and camping purposes, and it works very well for my needs. previously, i used a small pocket knife for carving and whittling and a bulky hatchet for serious cutting, but this knife allows me to combine the two into a single blade for better efficiency. the blade keeps its edge very well due to the wide angle, and the steel quality is high for the price. the built in sharpener in the sheath is very convenient in the wilderness. all in all, this knife is a great value. Wicked Awesome Perfect knife. The best Ive ever had. Amazon shipped it in a quarter of they time that they quoted; great buying experience. I would definitely buy again! Best Designed Survival Knife This model of knife was originally designed to be an ASEK (Aircrew Survival Egress Knife) and came with a cord cutter hook. The Infrantry Knife aspect came about after it was given to US troops in Afghanistan and Iraq as a demo item. It is a rugged knife, and has a window punch on its butt and a full tang blade completely insulated by the grip. This aspect came in handy to a certain sniper team in Iraq who cut a power line to a 250 KW Generator in order to dim the lights illuminating their position among around 100 insurgents. The electric arc put an eighth of an inch gash in the knifes blade, but the operator remained unshocked and was able to survive the incident. I am using it currently in Iraq, and I have found that though it isnt the sexiest of edged weapons, it is by far one of the most unyielding. Built in sharpener in sheath is nice, if you know exactly how to use it, otherwise you will nick the blade up a little. Came originally in desert tan/coyote brown, now out in straight black so I will have to by another one for my darker endeavors. |
