Easy to mount with the magnetic base and works very well. Id recommend it. Can't See in the Dark When You're Camping? This Light Will Help Are you one of these people who always brings a flashlight into your tent, but it just doesnt quite do the trick? Cant hold it in your hand, because you are doing something else, but you have to because you cant see in the dark? Well this flashlight will magnetically secure to your tent material without any damage to your tent! Believe me, this is a wonderful light to have along on a camping trip. Good light ... remote a little sensitive. This is a good product, but our remote is very sensitive. You have to hit it just right or the light will turn on and then turn right back off again. Would be a 4 easily if the remote was user friendly. Could just be our remote though. Nice light overall - great idea How many times have you fumbled around with a flashlight or kicked over a lantern in your tent? This magnetic grip-on light stays neatly atop the tent and the remote control makes it easy to make it all the way into the sleeping bag before turning off the light. We keep the remote clicked right near the tent door for easy access on the way to bed. At home, the remote shares the same frequency as my wireless doorbell - a surprise the first time we tested it at home. Overall a good product. It is a bit on the heavy side and takes quite a few AA batteries, but so far so good! Another quality Coleman product. A wonderful Addition to any Seasoned Camper's Gadgets My son loves this light. Remote control is the best part of the light. remote doesn't work well - poor quality product. poor design. comes apart easily and batteries wont stay in. remote works one-third of the time at best. these are used as a part of my home security system. I have about 20 of them, and i wish i had my money back instead of these. not good quality. i dont recommend. Coleman R. C. Tent Light- Possible to be Slightly Better This product is really very nice to have. My only complaint is that its fairly heavy, making it primarily useful for larger, stronger tents and practical mostly for vehicle-accessed camping. It is really not designed for use backpacking or on any type of "go-lite" type adventures. That being said, it is just the right kind of light, the softer light is nicer than a harsh, bright LED no matter which brightness setting you use. It wont automatically wake everyone else in the tent up at night if you need to use it. It can be very useful at home in a bedroom or bathroom or around a garage or work bench area, too. Its a great temporary light for almost anywhere. One thing though-- you must be very careful not to lose the remote-- I wish they had designed an easy and good way to positively attach the remote to the other two components when its being stored and out of use. Right now, Im using a small piece of duck tape to ensure the components dont separate when being stored. I tried pinching the little clip chain on the remote in between the magnet part and the light part, but this isnt a positive enough situation. A small bag would be another possibility, but I have too many different things in bags already, so would prefer to avoid this method. All this being said, I doubt I will do any vehicle-based camping without this gem of a product, since its so nice when getting up at night to go to the bathroom or get a drink or check to see if that really is a grizzly bear thats tearing the lid off your ice chest to get the bacon at 4 am! I have actually had this happen to me once, no kidding!! One other thing I highly recommend is a good headlamp to accompany all the other great lighting products you might have. I use mine daily. ONE OTHER NOTE: The Remote Control Tent Light is VERY MUCH more convenient and BETTER than the regular Tent Light and is VERY MUCH worth the extra 2 or 3 dollars it costs. In the case of the regular one, youll be fumbling in the night for the light to turn the switch on and occasionally youll knock the whole assembly down which means you must search outside the tent at night for the magnet piece! Pain in the you-know-what that can be easily avoided by buying the remote control tent light instead!! Impressive I am very pleased with this tent light. It is intensive enough and the remote operates very well. It is a great luxury to have in your tent and the price is great. Highly recommended. Make sure you know the way to operate There are a few reviewers complain about the remote. What I found out is, to turn on, click once(dont hold it); to turn off, click and hold. Maybe it was designed by purpose, the light will not turn on if you put something on the button and the light will not turn off if you touch the button by accident. The distance what I tested is similar to they said, 20-25 feet. The light only need 2 batteries(you can find out which 2), and the other 4 I think is for RF receiver. So if you dont want to use the remote, just put in 2. Coleman remote control tent light The light works as expected. The remote control is just like a car remote. Click and the light comes on or goes off. The magnet is super strong (you put a metal plate on the outside of the tent and the light attaches megnetically from the inside to the metal plate). The light is bright enough for most anything youd want to do and I used it in my 11 x 18 ft tent. Great idea and good light, but the remote is horrible Like another reviewer stated, the remote is a joke. My remote only worked from right next to the tent or inside, and when turning the light on, many times the light would just flash on and go back off. It would take 5-7 times of pushing the remote before the light stayed on. It could very well be that I just got a bum light. As for the brightness...the light is great. I didnt get this light to read in, to host a dinner under, or to perform surgery. I got this light so that I could see in the dark when changing clothes, crawling into bed, or helping one of my kids. For that purpose, the light is the next greatest thing since sliced bread, or actually since cold beer. I do wish they would make one of these in an LED model. It would be so much smaller and brighter, and the batteries would last forever. BUT, the batteries lasted all weekend, no problem, and that is all I care about. I use rechargeable batteries in everything, so I dont mind charging them every week before a camping trip. This unit is somewhat heavy, but it has no problem staying on the tent, and is out of the way. So dont worry about size or weight on this. The light is nice and even, and everyone enjoyed it. I had to return this one, and Im considering getting the same one without the remote. It only takes 4 batteries. But, it sure is nice to turn the light off after youre already in your sleeping bag and nice an warm. Otherwise, you might have to play ro-cham-bo (spelling?) with a family member to see who gets up! The light is great, the remote is not I love the brightness of the light and how easy it was to setup but the remote was a joke I did not work unless you were right next to it I would suggest to get the one with out the remote!!! Not bad but could be improved. First, it works fine and the remote is a nice feature when going to bed. The light does not slide on the tent wall, though it is a bit heavy, caused by the 6 AA batteries. It could be brighter too. The flat reflective surface is white with no focal point. It uses an incandescent bulb which drains the batteries much faster than a florescent, or the new bright LED lamps. But it works well as a momentary light used to keep you from falling over your gear when going to bed. But if youre looking for a good reading light, youd be better off with a battery powered clip-on book light. - HRB VERY useful I have one of these, the guy above is smoking crack. These have a strong magnet, true. But in over 5 years of camping with one in even windy and wet stormy envioments it never loses grip and stays where you put it even on steep walls. Just pull the plate on the OUTSIDE of the tent up when ready to leave (theres a place for your fingers to pull up), and cacth the light inside with the other hand. Very easy to remove, no damage to any of the tents Ive used it on. And battery life? I only go camping every year but for a week at a time and Ive had them last two years (and that with them installed during storage). You should at least tried the item before reviewing. I dont see exactly how it can be very useful for camping tents. The magnet is so strong, its easy to rip something apart while pulling it away. I am not so sure too how long will a mass of 6 alkaline batteries will last, or given its at "remote control" mode with an LED lighting, how fast does it consumes power? A month? 4 months? Also, given that amount of batteries, the light does not justify its brightness. |
