Excellent lightweight bag     On: 2010-05-19

I was in the Army for 12 years. We had a new sleeping bag system that came out a few years before I got out. It was a 5 part system and really quite comfortable and adaptable for different seasons/temps. I always regretted not buying one before I got out. This sleeping bag took care of that. It is made of the same ripstop material, it is lightweight and comfortable. My first time to put it to use was a spring night in Okla in April. The day was decently warm (70s) but unbeknownst to me we had a cold front come in that night. It dipped into the low 40s that night. The wind woke me up a few times but not once was I cold or uncomfortable. The next morning I heard from my friends in the other tent about how cold they had gotten that night. Definitely a good bag.. recommend getting an inflatable or sleeping pad to add more cushion between you and the ground but no worries about being too cold. It also fully encloses around your face so no need to worry about bugs or snakes trying to get in and snuggle with you!
Best bang for the bucks!     On: 2010-04-28

I bought this sleeping bag after a month of research. I ended up buying this one because of the 15 degree rating. I used it at Oxbow, Oregon while fishing at the dam. The temperature at night was in the low 30s and I kept waking up a bit hot. Like some of the others had said, youll find yourself waking up in the middle of the night to unzip it a bit to cool off. I really like this sleeping bag because for the temperature rating and the price of a mummy style sleeping bag you just cant beat it. Oh yeah. the color IS dark blue and charcoal which is nicer looking than the picture. Just check the pictures on other website(this is the old model picture).

Dont think too hard. Buy it!
Comfortable but not compact     On: 2010-04-25

We needed a compact sleeping bag that could fit inside a carry-on bag for air travel. This one is not quite small enough, though we were able to make it work. At its smallest, it is about the size of a basketball, though oval. It definitely does not squish smaller than the 10 x 14". It is also difficult to squeeze back into the bag because there are no strings or straps and the slick material fights you. I recommend long shoelaces, because there is not room for the buckle on a compression strap.

The bag is comfortable, roomy enough through the hips and feet for a tall teen, pretty much as described. As others noted, the color has changed to a nice blue with charcoal.

This will be a nice bag for vacations. I would not recommend it for backpacking, and air travel is iffy if you are trying not to check bags. However, we could not find a smaller one for the price, especially with a 15 degree rating. Overall this is a good bag for the price.
Very Warm and Comfortable     On: 2009-12-30

It is blue, not the green/black color pictured. It is lighter than the specs say and that is a good thing. Seems very warm and comfortable. As good a value as I could find in a three season sleeping bag.
Good all-purpose scout bag for price     On: 2009-11-11

Like others have said, the current Crescent 15 Degree F bag being sold is a medium-dark blue and charcoal color, not lime green and charcoal as pictured. The blue panels are diamond-rip stop polyester taffeta, and the charcoal parts do not appear to be rip-stop. Its filled with 2 lbs 14 oz of "Coletherm" hollow core poly fill insulation. The net pack weight (the bag in the stuff sack) is just over 4 lbs. I bought two, and one weighed 4 lb 0.5 oz and the other 4 lb 1.8 oz on a postal scale. The stuff sack weights 2.5 oz, so the sleeping bag alone weighs just under 4 lbs, which is a good rule-of-thumb maximum limit for a sleeping bag to take backpacking.

It easily can keep you comfortable down to the 15 degree F rating. This bag is very compressible for its loft. The size in the included stuff sack is 10" diameter and 14" long, which most people will find to be an odd size for backpacking. However, it will fit (stuffed) into 1100-1200 cubic inch backpack compartments. It easily fits in an 9" x 24" compression sack (not included) and squeezes down to approx. 9" x 17" pack size if you want to attach it outside your pack.

For the price/weight, this bag is a great buy for both general camping and light-to-medium backpacking for 3-season use by Boy Scouts. Although it is true you can get goose-down bags for the same temperature range that are about 1 lb lighter and more compressible for hard-core backpacking, Im generally opposed to down bags for Boy Scouts for several reasons: a. down is outrageously expensive, especially given the likelihood of some rough treatment and short lifespan, b. a down bag is useless if it gets wet, and c. they require special cleaning or special soap for home washing.

My only complaints are that the shell isnt 100% rip-stop material, and the included stuff sack is an odd size, but at a price around 40 bucks, both can be forgiven.
Good Bag, Large Size     On: 2009-10-05

This bag is great - not the same color as in the photo, but extremely warm and comfortable, nonetheless! If youre looking for a compact, small bag to stuff into a backpack for hiking, this is not the one. Its not large by any means, but there are so many bags (largely down not synthetic) that can be stuffed into the size of two nalgene bottles rather than the size of a two pillows. If youre just using it for car camping, its a great buy! Seems its only sold on Amazon and other online stores, though, so if you needed to exchange it elsewhere, you wont have much luck.
Not the bag I ordered, but as luck would have it...     On: 2009-09-01

Backpacking on the cheap, thats how I roll. No, really I am basically a beginner on a tight budget so Im on the prowl for deals. I scoured Amazon and I settled for this Coleman Crescent bag, because well, Coleman is a name Ive trusted for years, Id never heard of the other brands, and I really didnt know exactly what I was looking for. Not long after I ordered the bag I realized it was supposedly for "tall" people, which I certainly am not. Then after talking to my Uncle who has been backpacking for 20+ years, I started to worry about the 5.2 pound listed weight of the bag. All my fears were for naught though because when the bag arrived I immediately saw that it wasnt the same bag. Yes, it was a Coleman Crescent, but it was blue with a completely different design on the front, it was normal sized, and it weighed less then 2.5 pounds. It easily fit into the stuff sack and fit perfectly into my 35.00$ Cuscus Backpack. Needless to say I spent the entire month of August humping this bag into the mountains up here in the great white north of Washington State.. It probably only dipped into the low 40s at the lowest, but I was so hot some nights I had to strip off thermals in the middle of the night.

So to recap... (1)The bag isnt too expensive. (2)The bag they send you is better then the bag described. (3) It is lightweight, and should fit into or under your pack, or easily strap onto an external frame (Ive done both with it). (4)It keeps you warm at night, at least in August.

Winter is around the corner so I should test the 15 degree rating as I backpack deep into fall, but Im guessing it will do alright. The only knock I have is that there isnt any room to move your legs. I know its a mummy bag and all, but dang, the legs are a little too snug. Up next, get rid of my 40.00$ 4-man dome tent that Im packing in everywhere.
not the same as the picture, but a decent bag     On: 2009-04-10

I believe the bag you receive is a new model of the one shown in the picture. The one in the picture is more appealing to me because it looks more spacious, but the newer model is more advanced. I used it this past weekend in about 40 degree whether at night & it was quite warm. My only complaint is that it is a little narrow. I am about 5-9 & it is plenty long. If you want to see what it actually looks like, go to Target.com & search this bag.
Great bag.     On: 2008-03-13

Ive had this thing for a while now and used it in the winter, and it hasnt let me down. Its a little billowy, but I guess thats the compromise you make for getting lighter materials. Overall, Id say its a bag you want to store in your main pack compartment, rolled out a little to fill space and maintain your stability; compression bag works great as a food/incidentals bag if you do this. I recommend it.
