It takes up less space that way and doesnt come unrolled. exactly what it says  On: 2008-04-07This is a stuff sack that is for the Therm-a-Rest bag (each pad has its own size, make sure you get the correct one). The pad fits perfectly, and the bag itself is very light, and I havent needed to do extensive testing, but it seems rain proof. You do have to roll the pad VERY tight to make it fit, but as a backpacker space saving should be second nature. if you just want a dry bag for random stuff, look elsewhere for cheaper, and more watertight bags. Also, it may look like you are buying a set of 3 - given the photo - but you are not. This is a small sack that is perfect for packing the Therm-a-Rest mattress, or other odds and ends.
