Nice Idea - Cheap Implementation     On: 2007-07-09

This kit is certainly an improvement over the stock incadescent Mini-mag, that weve come to know and love. The fact the light remains usable, even after it would have turned to the orangish hue with the regular bulb is a nice plus. The ability to turn one on with a single click (like their big brothers) is something that has always been missing for me. But this is not without its flaws, most notably the loss of the focusing ability and quality of construction.

Pros
* Saves substantially on battery life and allows functionality from otherwise disccharged batteries.
* Brighter than the stock bulb.
* The cap-mounted switch adds much needed functionality.
* Easy to convert.

Cons
* Loss of the ability to focus. Light output is somewhere been the full spread and the focused beam.
* Cheaply constructed. I noticed the switch tended to wiggle and sometimes would lose contact with the batteries, causing flickering. I also have grave concerns about how sturdy the LED apparatus is.

Bottom line. If you already own a Min-mag and dont mind losing the ability to focus, this is a reasonable alternative. However, if you are willing to pay a little more, there are other kits that provide better light and shock resistance. Nite-ize also has an "IQ Switch" that is far more robust and functional. If you are purchasing a new Mini-mag, buy LED version from Mag; its a silly waste to purchase a regular one and upgrade with this. Now that Mag has their own LEDs, there is less reason to purchase this kit.

Nice system. You need the on-off button at the base for it to work. Great light and the batteries seem to work for a long time compared to a regular bulb.
Sounded like a good idea, but     On: 2006-11-27

This light kit ended up NOT AS BRIGHT as the original bulb. Plus, the push-button switch would not stay in the ON position. Dont waste your money.
