Good quality, but very uneven heat on a 4 inch burner     On: 2007-11-07

I bought this pan to replace an nonstick coated aluminum pan with approximately the same dimensions. After using the aluminum pan for so many years making pancakes and french toast, I was very disappointed with this product. The center 6-7" is the only useful area of this pan. The rest of the pan us surprisingly cooler. Your pancakes will turn out half burnt/half raw if you try to fit 4 in there. I have tried heating and letting it stand to even the heat out, but it just doesnt work. This pan will have to be relegated to use on the grill. I am going back to aluminum.
I was pleasantly surprised by the non-stick quality of this pan. If cooked correctly, almost everything breakfast related just comes off with the spatula. I just run it under water after it cools down and brush the remaining pieces off. No problems.
Good but not great     On: 2006-12-17

I will mostly agree with the other reviewer of this Griddle. I bought it to replace an old Club Nonstick aluminum griddle. The Nonstick was starting to stick a lot. I would rather clean cast Iron than just about any other cooking material including stainless steal. Most of my older stuff is Wagner Ware, I think they had better quality, but they priced them selves out of contention with the import stuff. Lodge has done a fine job of making better looking quality stuff than the cast Iron coming in from China and Taiwan with out pricing themselves too high to be competitive. If you can go to a store that carries both Lodge and an import brand you can see the difference. I like the Pre-seasoning that Lodge has been putting on there cast iron lately. While not always perfect it gives a nice starting point and is a darker patina than the first time you do it your self. Cast Iron my be a little heavy for some people, but it continues to look better with age instead of worse as with most other products. Usually cast iron is great for even heat, but I think this griddle may be too large for most burners. Maybe if you have larger than normal burners you will get even heat, but for my small stove it does not seem to heat evenly. My aluminum griddle is one inch smaller and seems to work very well. The last inch my just disperse too much heat for my small burners to heat evenly. On the other hand Lodges 20-by-10-7/16-Inch Cast-Iron Grill/Griddle that goes over two burners works very well for me.
Maybe it's just me     On: 2006-05-19

I cook breakfast regularly--omlettes, pancakes, eggs, etc. and bought this pan so I could cook 4 pancakes at once. A task I couldnt seem to manage in a 12" Lodge frying pan (which I love). But this unit doesnt seem to be up to the task--on a standard size electric stove, and even allowing extra time for the griddle to heat thoroughly, it still heats unevenly. The center is much hotter than the edges (which of course hang off direct contact with the burner). This results in uneven heating and disappointing pancakes. Thats my two cents worth--Im going to try an electric griddle next...
