Great concept, decent execution.     On: 2007-11-21

I have the white version of this light, clipped to the strap handle on my laptop. The strap is apparently narrower than the headlamp straps for which the Pilot is designed, as it tries to fall off sometimes. Thats my fault, but you should measure your strap before buying just in case.

The gray light body separates from the black clip base with just a twist, but there are little detents keeping it from rattling out accidentally. You can also tilt the beam about 45 degrees off straight, without disengaging it from the clip. I wish there were a way to go 90 degrees, but when you pass about 60, the clip no longer holds onto the light.

The light is respectably bright for a single LED, but not so bright that Id worry about depleting the batteries quickly. One push turns it on, another push puts it into blink mode, and another push turns it off. Theres no way to bypass blink mode, but youll quickly get used to the routine.

Changing the batteries requires a #0 Phillips screwdriver, and looks fairly straightforward, though Ive had mine 2 years and the original batteries are still going strong. I like the use of screws, rather than a pop-apart case. This means the waterproofing gasket is firmly compressed, and the light is very solid.
