If not for the weak poles...     On: 2008-08-18

We purchased this tent for a family camping trip; my husband and I slept in it and the kids had their own. The tent was easy to put together and we liked the size, although I cant imagine fitting a third person in it...Unfortunately, the front rain fly pole, which creates that nice little curve in the front that you can see in the pictures, snapped right away. This caused it to sag and the rain fly seemed effective. The one in the back was also clearly weakened. I could see that the issue was the poles were poorly made; if they had been able to slip a little further into the metal sleeve, I dont think they would have broken. As it was, there was too much strain and not enough support. This was a big disappointment, as I have always been an avid Eureka fan, and convinced my husband that this was the one we needed...Im hoping that we just got a bad one, and they arent all that weak, as I read all the good reviews beforehand... On the positive side, it did rain while we were camping, and even with the rain fly compromised by the broken pole, no water leaked into the tent.
Broken Poles & Poor Customer Service     On: 2008-08-18

We also had a problem with one of the brim poles breaking after the first use, and the other one has chips at the "fiberglass" tip. I called customer service the next day and had to leave a message after merely getting someones voicemail. That same day, I also sent an email to customer service as follow up. It is now 6 days later and, after still not having received a reply by either phone or email, I called again. I was informed today that they do not have the poles in stock, and (this is the best part) they do not expect them for at least 8 weeks! Lets see, that means, with any luck, I SHOULD have them by the middle of October. I also asked about the possibility of obtaining them from a store that used to stock Eureka parts, only to be told that the stores do not have them either. Needless to say, I am rather disappointed with the quality of the poles, not to mention Eurekas lack of customer service. Actually, the tent itself is quite nice, although we only used it the one time in dry weather, so I cant comment on how it is in rain. However, a tent can only be as good as its weakest link which, in this case, is definitely the poles.
Great Tent!     On: 2008-08-12

Really cheap and great quality. Only slight qualm is that its not 100% rainproof. It manages in a downpour, but the insides get really humid and the bottom can soak up a bit of water.
All in all, worked great and quick and easy to set up.
Awesome tent!     On: 2008-08-12

Good quality tent at a great Amazon price! I still have to see how the fly will hold up during rain, but otherwise Im very satisfied with the Eureka Tetragon Tent.
1 1/2 " of RAIN and we stayed dry.     On: 2008-06-28

Went to Cub Scout camp with the tent. Set the tent up on normal high ground with a ground tarp. Everyone else in the campsite had water in their tent but not us. The factory sealed seams worked great. I normally would have sealed them myself but the forcast was dry. The front and back of the tent looks exposed but they held up very well. The rain rolled right off. When we took the tent down we actually had some water between the tent and ground tarp but no water in the tent I was amazed. The tent is a great 2 large person or 1 large and a 2 children size tent. Was easy to put up and down. Took me five minutes by myself. If you pick a poor place for any tent it will leak. So this tent will work great it you learn how to pick proper tent location when setting up camp.
Great tent for quick set up & packing     On: 2008-02-25

Ive had this tent for over 5 years in all kinds of weather
Rain,Snow,Hot,Cold & Windy it keeps me and my gear dry
I use it for motorcycle trips across the united ststes
for kayaking trips & hunting trips never had a problem
I use a tarp under the tent. Sets up in couple of minutes
in the morning dry off with towel put back in bag & ready to go
but I noticed the rain fly on mine is a little differant
then the one shown in the picture I recomended this to
all my family & frends

Perfect for my purposes!     On: 2007-09-07

Im not an avid camper so I knew I didnt need an expensive tent, but I also didnt want to skimp out and get a cheapo tent. The Eureka line fit the bill quite nicely. I was deciding between the Tetragon 7 and Apex XT since Id be using it for 2 people and I wanted it to be lightweight enough for backpacking. After reading many reviews I went with the Tetragon 7 (and Im very happy with my decision) for a few reasons:
1. Tent person ratings tend to be liberal. A 2 person tent is reasonably spaced for 2 average sized people, but leaves little room for extra gear and packs. Since I always put my backpack and gear IN the tent, I went a 3-person tent where my gear takes the place of the 3rd person. Im definitely glad I went with this size.
2. The Tetragons have good rain flies. I read reviews of this tent having leaking problems, which was something that was swaying me toward the Apex XT which seems to have a nicer fly. Admittedly I havent experienced inclimate weather yet, but I sealed the seams and have an extra tarp just in case the weather gets rough. I think the Tetragon 7 will work well for my uses.
3. Eurekas lifetime warranty is reassuring.
4. As I mentioned, the packaged tent is fairly lightweight and easy for a backpacking trip.
5. Setup was incredibly easy, I must not have camped in a long time because I could have sworn tents were hard to setup. It only took 2 minutes to get the tent up and fly on.
Im very happy with my decision and especially Amazons cheap price. As an intermediate camping person (1-3 trips/year) this tent is perfect for my purposes. If I was an avid camper, I might splurge on a more expensive tent, but this one is great for me!
Scouting tent review     On: 2007-08-17

I bought this for my new boy scout. For the price it was cheaper to buy a new tent than try to seal my 25 year old Eureka. For the price it worked great, and for the few times a year in the backpack (somewhat light) it should do the trick. Very easy to set up and down, roomy for two and three can get in. Quality of material is not the best (fiberglass poles feel they can snap easy), but it should last thru the scouting years. I did make a plastic ground cover for it. Good buy for the occasional camper.
Tetragon 7     On: 2007-01-19

Very please. My two boys and I went backpacking the end of December. It was the first time for my 12 year old. This tent worked very well. Good construction. Not too heavy for this type of trip. I would recommend the next size down, if you only have one other person, but its great for 3.
Good Tent     On: 2006-08-19

I bought this tent for my first tent camping experience. I am very satisfied with it. It is easy to pitch. My husband sealed the seams and I had a sheet of plastic for ground cover over the spot where I pitched the tent. A major storm with high wind, heavy rain and small hail came through. I stayed safe and dry. (I did have heavy rocks placed over my stakes to add extra security since I was in a windy area) Cant think of one complaint about this tent.
Great nights rest and STAYED DRY!!!     On: 2006-08-17

It didnt just rain... it POURED! And guess what? We stayed dry as can be. I defnitely recommend this one if you think you might be heading into some wet weather on your trip.
Design flaw, sealing seams won't help!     On: 2006-08-15

The reviewer below suggesting sealing the seams DOESNT own this tent! I agree that sealing seams is a good idea on cheap tents; however, this tent has a design flaw that causes it to leak!

Expand the photo on Amazon and look at the Rainfly...The bottom of the door (and back window) extend to where the rainfly stops. The Rainfly actually channels water onto the lower sections of the door and rear window.

This creates two problems;
1.) You cannot enter the tent while it is raining without getting quite a bit of water in the tent with you (remember the channeling effect?)
2.) The constant stream of water on the zipper causes a steady leak inside the tent.

If the Rainfly was "A-framed" instead of "Arched" I dont believe it would be a problem.

Drives me nuts that someone who doesnt even own the product would post a 5-star review

Seal the seams BEFORE it rains     On: 2006-08-11

I dont own this tent, but I have owned other Eureka tents in the past. As with many good tents, the seams are sewn together with thread, but they are not "sealed." Sealing means applying a sort of thick glue to coat the threads and seams so water wont come through.
Some tents have some sort of seam sealer applyed at the factory, they say. I usually apply some of my own, too. Read the instructions; it will tell whether the seams or sealed, and recommend a seam sealer if not. You can buy a tube at most sporting goods stores. Ask a salesperson for advice on applying it.
There are sometimes a lot of seams that have to be coated: top cover rainfly, floor, door, etc. - anything exposed to the outside. Especially the floor, cause you can end up in a big puddle if it rains enough.
Sometimes you need to reapply sealer after several years. If the fabric, itself, starts to leak, something like Thompsons Water Sealer with make it waterproof again. But it will also make it stiffer and change the color slightly.
Eureka makes good tents. If prepared properly, they dont leak. Heck, even cheapo tents dont leak if the seams are sealed. About the only way you would get leaks is if there were holes in the fabric. And then you would need to patch them. If you take care of a tent when handling it, holes are rare. But careless use of lighters or cigarettes will do it.
Tent leaks!
by: dave@vacationsinc.com    On: 2006-08-07

I have just read some of the other reviews and have to believe someone from the company wrote them....

It leaks, it leaks, it leaks...

The way it is designed, it cant not leak in heavy rain...

Look at my other reviews.. I am normally very positive, but this tent is a fair-weather tent only. After our experience with this tent I had to spend almost $400 on a Sierra Designs tent (doesnt leak, really nice tent too). I was sooooo hopeful that this tent would "do", but it really didnt.

On a HUGE plus side, Amazon did take it back and refund.

Tent leaks in multiple places; including door seam, back panel, and through seams on Rainfly! This is NOT normal condensation (I promise), but leaks that resulted in two bath towels and one sleeping bag getting soaked. The tent was set up according to instructions with Rainfly secure and failed to keep its occupants (2 adults and a three year old) dry during a rain. Made for a miserable experience.

Consumer Reports: "Excellent"
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-04-14

I dont own this tent, but...

Consumer Reports ranked it as "Excellent" in set up test criterium in the Small Sized Family Camping Tent Comparison. Also was a "Quick Picks" tent identified by them.

I saw this tent in person, and I think its a pretty good deal for the occassional to heavy camper.
