![]() Eureka Solo Solitaire Tent By: Eureka Average Rating: 3.5 Total Reviews: 10 More Information Great backpacking tent for the money I went on my first trip with this tent. Set up is a little confusing so practice in your backyard a couple times. Then its a snap. My only trip with the tent was a super hot weekend with no rain (so I cant tell you how it is in the rain). In the heat it was great to roll the fly up and be surrounded by mesh. I am not coordinated enough to climb in from the top so I needed to crawl backwards in, not a big problem. It was nice to be able to lift the sleeping bag out through the top. Looking forward to testing the tent in the rain. Cheap poles Set this tent up in the backyard right after I got it. The 2 dogs cant stand in it. One is 50 lbs and the other is 25. So they decided to play outside around it. Took it down 5 days later and one of the poles had cracked in half. You get what you pay for. Wonder how it would do in the wind?? Cheap poles. The opening on the top is cool, eureka could have designed it different. I am 53" and I can not sit up in this tent, unless the zipper on top is opened. There is room for my pack/gear and small pup but as she grows this tent will just sit in the garage. Easy to set up -takes five mins tops depending on the ground.I purchased a nylon ground cloth from campmor and it is the perfect footprint for this. It was 15 bucks. Overall I am 50/50. i will NEVER recommend this tent i setup this tent for the first time last night.. everything set up fine, but the fiberglass poles snapped in the middle of the night. They are not strong enough to support the tension from the tent. Every joint in the pole is either snapped completely through or is cracked. After reading more reviews online, it appears this is a very popular complaint with eureka tents, and they are doing nothing to fix the problem. Considering the price, i guess it is an ok tent, but its more than worth it to shove out an extra $100 bucks for a descent tent from another brandname. I love this tent This tent is great. Its small enough to fit in my pack and really easy to set up. Its not free standing but as long as you can use stakes setup is easy. The mesh ceiling is awesome, its great to sleep under at night if there is no rain. You can see everything around you and not be eaten by bugs. Im 6 and fit in great. I wouldnt want to be much taller though and be in the tent. I could fit myself, my back, boots and another book bag in the tent while I slept. The top access is also amazing. Ive had other tents where you have to get in from the front and with a tent this size its annoying. Being able to just step into this tent is really nice. Decent, affordable solo option I bought this tent for backpacking in and around the southern Appalachian mountains, so I havent yet encountered this freestanding problem the other reviewers have had b/c I always have soft ground to stake the tent down into. The Solitaire is also very easy to pack and carry. Im 62" and fit in there fine, but it is true that Im about ALL that fits in there. For short trips (a week at most), I just take my 30L pack, and this tent fits in there fine w/ my compressed down sleeping bag, sleeping mat, and other gear. DO NOT BUY A CHINOOK BIVY SACK THIS REVIEW IS A WARNING TO ANYONE WANTING TO BUY A CHEAPER ALTERNATIVE BIVY SACK FOUND ON EBAY SOLD BY MTS & ScoutTech. CHINOOK BIVY SACKS ARE NOT WATERPROOF AT ALL AND LEAK PUDDLES OF WATER THROUGH THE FABRIC. WHEN I RETURNED THE PRODUCT TO MTS & ScoutTech THEY INSULTED ME AND ONLY OFFERED A PARTIAL REFUND DESPITE THE FACT THAT THEY GUARANTEE 100% SATISFACTION. BUYER BEWARE. Not Freestanding - Set Up Too Long AVOID The box DOES not say it requires all corners to be staked out. Not until you read the manual. Had to return. It looks free standing in the ad and on the box. So if you are in Sand, Snow, hard or wet ground You can not really set up. Also, It would take too long to setup if weather changed. This is NOT for serious fast packers or experienced backpackers (31 years now). Based upon prior use of Eureka products I expected better, they blew it. Other reviewers said the poles broke too easily. Equipment should be designed and tested by real world users, not cube slaves. ALWAYS test gear before you venture out. Performed great backpacking in the Sierras last February with me and my 60 lb dog. I think for the price it is the best deal going. Im also pleased with my Eureka Alpinlight winter tent. Good starter backpacking tent This is a very good starter backpacking tent. It is easy to set up, and provides great 3-season shelter. From the online description, I thought that the tent would require no groundcloth, but after one use, I would recommend carrying a footprint to cut down on moisture in the tent. I bought this tent for my 13 year old to use on Boy Scout backpacking trips, and he enjoyed using it. He reported that set up was fairly simple on his own, and he was comfortable on his first overnight. I would recommend this affordable tent for occasional use and for backpacking novices. Not a Freestanding Tent!! After I setup the whole tent, I realize that it definitely needs a soft soil not a solid ground to place itself. Not a freestanding tent says in the menu!! Beyond this annoying issue, the design with double stitch is good to stand light rain without feeling wet inside the tent. And overall weight is so fantastic that you dont really feel any burden to carry around from one campsite to another. I do have another 9x7 tent which is good for up to 5 people. Since this is a single light weight tent, do not expect it to handle the duty like 4 people tent. Afterall, "This tent is good for single, and only!!" Not a Freestanding Tent!! EXTREME Backpacker's tent The Solitare is exceptionally light and packs very compactly. It is fairly easy to set up even if it is non self supporting. Unfortunately, being non self supporting means you MUST have sufficient soil to plant the stakes which is difficult in extremely rocky sites. Practically, the Solitare is a pain in the [...]. It is actually more of a bivy sack than a tent. Even when it is correctly set up it is so small that you can expect to be touching tent walls on 3 if not 4 (or 5) sides at once. There is no space inside for any gear stowage and the vestibule is so low overhead that storing your boots out of the rain is about all that is possible. It takes great flexibility to get in and out of the Solitare without stretching the fabric unacceptably. Getting in and out of the tent in more than a light drizzle will ensure that you get soaking wet. Getting dressed within the Solitare is impossible. I would buy this tent again, but only for situations that require extremely light gear and temperatures above 50F with virtually no rain. |
