![]() Eureka Apex 2XT Adventure 7-Foot by 5-Foot Two-Person Tent By: Eureka Average Rating: 4.5 Total Reviews: 23 More Information If it weren't for the bees... ...this tent would be 5 stars! I had been researching for months for a decent upgrade from a $25 dollar tent from Target. Finally I decided to purchase the Apex by Eureka and there are so many positive aspects to it: setting up is a snap (it doesnt even need the stakes if theres zero wind conditions), materials are nice, construction is quality and I found it for $80 on another site! I couldnt wait to go camping when it arrived in the mail, so my boyfriend and I took the tent on a little Joshua Tree rendezvous. After all of the obvious positives and the astounding reviews, I was awoken at 5 am to HD stereo buzzing. The tent had attracted a swarm of HUNDREDS (no exaggerations necessary) of happy little bees, as they must have thought the Apex was the most lovely prize queen bee of the world being that it is bright yellow. There was no way to sleep and somehow every hour one would sneak in to the tent by some unknown route. We had to pack-up and leave, I got stung two times and it was really disheartening. A month later we took a camping trip to the Yuba River and when we arrived there were no bees, so we thought maybe it was a fluke in Joshua Tree. Sure enough, the next morning just as the sun was rising, we were right up with it and the bees! The moral of the story: if you want to harvest honey spontaneously buy this tent and just wait! If it werent for the bees Id be in love with this tent, its got all of the features and quality that could be desired in this price range. I cant believe no one else wrote about this problem, because if I would have known I would not have purchased it. Good Buy Ive taken this tents on a few trips so far, and its preformed very well. Although its officially a three season tent, I used it in the snow and it worked just fine. I also slept through a thunderstorm in it and stayed completely dry. I also like the fly wings since they create a lot of storage space. Not a two man tent A 2 kid tent yes, a 2 midget tent yes, 2 man only if they are small and lovers. Im 6 3" and I sleep corner to corner in this tent. You can put a full size air bed mattress in it and it takes up the entire floor. Its a super 1 man tent. Light, easy to set up and disassemble. Actually goes back in the nylon bag provided. I spent two weeks in this tent and got rained on about 30% of the time and I stayed very dry. One cool feature is that the tent itself is almost all mesh. The picture of the tent has the rain fly on it. But if you know that it is not going to rain you can leave the rain fly off and you can sleep under the stars and the bugs cant get at you nor any other small critters. The only bad thing about this tent is that if you open the rain fly door when it is raining you and your stuff will get wet. No way around it because of the domed configuration. I love this little tent. I highly recommend it for one person. Eureka Apex 2XT I got this tent for Christmas and finally got to use it last month (April) on an overnight trip. Overall I was pleased. It was easy to set up and had plenty of room for one person. Two people would be tight, but all 2 person tents probably are that way for 2 grown people. The vestibules were great for stowing gear. Didnt have to use ponchos to cover and leave outside. The rain fly/vestibule was wider than I thought so make sure you have plenty of space to pitch your tent. It rained off and on most of the night and I stayed dry. Did have a little condensation in the tent in the morning but that could have been my fault for not seam sealing it. Wish the side mesh vent hole was accesible from the inside and, as stated from other posts, the zippers for the vestibules are at the tip of the fly. So it is inconvenient. Wish they were at the top. Little things, nothing major. So far - performs as promised I have set it up several times, went up very quickly with 1 person. First camp trip set it up after dark, in wind - no problem. I am unsure how it would be to set it up in the rain due to the big screen area. I havent figured out how to get it up without the inside getting wet. Once I was inside, the room was nice. The double vestibules were useful, especially for wet items. I used the built in loops to hang lights inside, I dont think the gear loft would be useful. It was in the 40s with 25mph wind - inside I stayed dry and suprisingly warm. My only suggestion on the design is the door design has 2 zippers, requiring you to unzip 2 zippers to get thru the screen door. Kind of picky, but I forgot to unzip one several times. The wide opening was nice for getting equipment into the tent however. Did a great job on a tough hike This tent performed very well on my 4 day winter hike on the Bartram Trail. Kept me comfortable through nights of freezing rain and high winds. Floor kept out water even when it built up along the sides of the tent (bad placement of tarp on my part). The vestibules were a great place to store gear out of the rain. As others stated, it was very easy to set up. The Cons that kept it from getting 5 stars. Minor leak along zipper seam on one of the vestibules. In strong wind, some water enters through the side vent even when closed. Like all mostly mesh tents it was a little bit of a mess to set up in the rain. Lastly it was a little too heavy for tough trails (seemed heavier than stated weight) These are minor flaws and I think I pushed this tent beyond its intended design limits. For less extreme conditions I would highly recommend this tent. Stood up well in high winds I spent one night in this tent in my backyard to test it out. It just so happened that we had unusually high winds for us, sustained around 50MPH. When inside the tent I couldnt even tell it was windy other than the sound of the wind. There was no condensation build up in the night, and its a great size. It was also super easy to set up. My last tent took me at least 40 minutes to set up and turned me off camping a bit. This will definitely motivate me to camp more. Great tent! Apex 2xt Great tent. Very light and easy to pack. Very, very quick and easy setup. Would recommend for anyone. pretty good About what you would expect for this price of tent. Light weight, easy set up and packs small. Not sure how sturdy the waterproof base will prove. Great Tent! The temt is easy to set up and I love that the vestibules keep gear out of the tent but also out of the elements. Well designed product I used this tent while doing field research for 3 1/2 weeks straight. With set up and take down occuring every 3-4 days. It worked great and was sized perfectly for holding myself and my gear. Easy set up/take down and lightweight. The design was great for wind and rain resistance. During a storm with 45mph gusts my Eureka Apex 2XT stood its ground with no problem while my colleagues watched their tents bend and collapse. The only difficulty I had was reaching the zipper on the fly, when wanting to open the fly from the inside of the tent. The zipper on the fly is closed when the zipper pull is at the furthest point away. Nonetheless, that was a small aggravation considering the overall quality for the money. Great product. lived in this tent for 6 months down under! had a blast in this little tent - my boyfriend and i traveled all over australia in it - its easy to set up light to carry and if its dry out you can sleep with the fly off and have great views and tons of fresh air! it still doesnt have any holes in it! perfect choice for my needs Ive used this tent for about 20 of the past 30 days in many different environments. Many of those days it was raining, and Im happy to say that the tent stayed bone-dry. It seems durable too, no rips or breaks yet. It has been sleeping myself and my travel companion. Its an intimate fit, so if you like to spread out when you are sleeping, it will better sleep one person. The color can be a little obnoxious, but Im not the kind of person to rate a utility product on aesthetics. Great Gear for a Newbie I am new to camping and needed a lightweight tent to take with me on a trip overseas. The Apex 2XT is light, easy to set up, break down, and repack, gets great ventilation, and holds up well to rain. The only area of mild dissatisfaction for me is that while the vestibule design offers a great place to stash shoes, it makes it a bit awkward to get in and out of the tent. Altogether though, I am very pleased and satisfied with this tent and highly recommend it to fellow camping newbies. Great lightweight tent! I was looking for a smaller (2-3 man) lightweight tent that would easily fit into a backpack. The Apex 2XT fits that bill. The 2 doors allow you to enter exit on either side. The extended fly allows you to leave items outside the tent but the items are still protected by the weather. The only recommendation I would make is to allow the zipper on the fly door to open/close from the top instead of the bottom. This would allow for easier entry/exit from the inside of the tent. Eureka Apex 2xt I bought this for our Boy Scout Troop this is the 6th one I have gotten and we Love them especially for backpacking Great 2-Person Tent for Extreme Conditions! I have taken my Eureka Apex 2XT on numerous car camping trips last year, and it worked great even in the pouring rain in the Cascade Mountains of Washington (and it rains here no doubt). The tent rainfly has a nice PU (Polyurethane) coating on the underside, and a factory DWR (Durable Water Repellant) treatment on the outside surface that beads water very well. The full vestibules on both sides is a must-have feature of this tent--great for storing gear, boots, and even cooking while under protective cover (unzip rainfly a bit before starting a stove). The two large entrance doors on both sides make entry and exit from the tent easy. I also like how this tent breathes very well--very, very little condensation (none if those doors are unzipped and rolled down). I also purchased the optional gear loft, and I found this addition worth the cost. I like how I can toss my wallet, keys, flashlight, and other gear into the tent loft. The only downsides here are the two side tent doors do not have mesh bug-screens. However I found that with the vestibules fully zipped, those little critters have a tough time finding a way inside. If they do, I just zip the tent doors shut. For backpacking, the weight is a bit on the heavy side. However if you are going on a trek with an adult partner, given them a tent pole and the rainfly, and a ground cloth. Meanwhile, you keep a tent pole, the tent itself, and the stakes--that is just over 2 pounds (nice for the ultralight packer). The tent floor fabric is a light ripstop. Make sure you get a ground cloth. I would not recommend the Eureka ground tarps--too heavy and cheap plastic. I would recommend a cloth emergency all-weather space blanket--it will reflect back heat in colder weather, and its much lighter for about the same price if not less. Otherwise, I do not think you will find a better tent for the money. I would even go so far as to say this tent is near expedition quality and craftsmanship. In short, you wont be dissappointed. Excellent tent Tent was bought for summer camping. Very easy to set up and take down. Very good tent at a reasonable price. Excellent tent Tent was bought for summer camping. Two of those trips we had very heavy rains. Both times the tent stayed completely dry. I was very impressed. This is also one of the only two person tents that Ive camped with that is actually comfortable for two people. The dual vestibules give plenty of gear room. Set up is simple even for one person. Its a little on the heavy side for backpacking - if that will be your main use I suggest looking at the Pinnacle Pass which is the same tent but with aluminum poles that make it about a pound lighter. Great tent for the price!!!! I just took this tent camping and it stayed incredibly dry! I was camping in a field with tall grass when I woke up in the morning my rain fly was covered in dew, yet the was absolutely no moisture on the inside (including condensation). It is definetly not a fall/winter tent though. If I not had a good sleeping bag, I would have been freezing. Also, I did not seal the seams (which I plan on doing), and I didnt rain while I was using it, so if the conditions are a little rougher there maybe some issues, I dont know. Otherwise great tent for the price. Great tent for the price!!!! I just took this tent camping and it stayed incredibly dry! Otherwise great tent for the price. Great Test Plenty of space for 2 people and a dog!..This tent is very spacious and vestibules are big as well. For size this tent is also very light for 2 people...recommend to any backpackers Good enough for its intended purpose Its a good enough tent if you are camping out for the weekend or a few days. It doesnt really fit two normal sized individuals comfortably, but they can both fit. If you want value for money, its an ok product. I also have the Eureka!® Apex Tent, which i personally think is a better tent. good for the price This is a really decent tent for the price I paid. It is kind of small, just big enough for my gear, and me but if youd leave your bags outside, 2 people will fit. It is extremely easy to set up after you figure it out. I put it up once before taking it camping and after that first try, I was able to pitch it by myself in about 5 minutes. However I have only taken it camping for one weekend, and the weather was perfect, so Im not sure how it stands up to harsher conditions. Overall it is a good buy. |
