![]() MSR Alpine Utensil Set By: MSR Average Rating: 4.0 Total Reviews: 6 More Information Wish they didn't fold These seem gimmicky to me. Theyre more expensive and less durable than what I replaced them with... a small wooden spatula. I love MSRs gear... just not this particular piece. Great Utensils by MSR They fold up small, in half, & fold open to a normal size spatula, spoon & strainer that fit perfectly with our backpacking pots/pans. When you open them all the way flat they lock into the open position so they are not floppy but very sturdy when using. To fold back up just press the release tab. Great design. Very easy to clean, light weight & fit into the pack with ease. We will be using these for many trips to come. Very happy with our purchase. Wish it would have had a mesh storage bag with it. Easy fix, well just buy one. Disappointed Not up to MSR standards, the latching tab broke on the spoon the first time I folded it. The utensils are very flimsy and will not stand up to camp use. Would have been better if they didnt fold. Decent buy This utensil set, when folded up, will easily fit inside stackable pot/pan camping units (tested with MSR gourmet 3-piece set) with room to spare. The spatula and ladle locks in the open position at the base. Pressing the small knob unlocks it, allowing them to fold up tightly. The strainer does not, however, and does not fold up tightly on its own. Is it worth $10+? Probably not, especially since I dont plan on using the strainer out on the trail, but Im ok with the purchase. Chef's delight I just started some longer hiking/camping expeditions this past summer. I sat down with my pack and equipment to decide what went and what stayed. As a chef, I hated to omit the slightly more gourmet items in my bag but my cooking utensils were too long and awkwardly shaped to be convenient. The MSR utensil set nicely solved that issue. I love these things! They are VERY compact and weigh almost nothing. The locking mechanism works perfectly. The straining utensil does not lock unfortunately but I have not found this to be a problem. Also I would be curious to know how much abuse the thin material at the bend can take before it breaks but so far it hasnt. The ladle also has measuring lines inside which have come in handy! Nice compact set of utensils I am happy with my purchase of these camping utensils. They do what they are supposed to do, plain and simple. They seem durable. The one complaint that I have is that the middle utensil in the picture (I think it is for flipping pancakes) doesnt have a locking hinge, so I am concerned that the plastic will fatigue over time. I dont have proof of this since Ive only used these once, but it is a minor concern of mine; not enough to bring it to four stars, though. You can tell a lot of thought went into the dimensions of these utensils. For one, they do collapse down into a more managable size. Secondly, the spatula is narrow enough to be lowered into a tin can to stir soup. I thought that was great. :) Anyway, good set of utensils, to be sure.
