![]() LEKI Nordic Walking Traveller Poles By: Leki Average Rating: 5.0 Total Reviews: 12 More Information Nordic poles are great! These are a great cardio tool that really help to burn more calories and strengthen your core and upper body. Awesome! Met, not exceeded, my expectations I purchased these poles hoping to get the most out of my early morning power walk. I have 4 small children, and I get up before dawn to get in some exercise. I like the poles, but they do slow me down. I dont use them every day, I just cant go as fast. I can feel the difference in my abdomen and in the backs of my arms, though! They are super light and easy to store. A Little Extra Pep In My Step LEKI Nordic Walking Traveller Poles have really enhanced my morning walks. I feel my abs and arms toning up a bit (in addition to my push-ups twice a week) and theyre so easy to use. What I appreciate about the Nordic Walking experience is that the ads feature fit people from all walks of life instead of the cliche shirtless muscular hunk or the shapely spandex-clad honey. Its nice to incorporate some strength training into my morning walks. Found What Was Missing I am a morning neighborhood walker, and I had thoughts in my mind of something else is needed to give me more results from "just" walking. I tried walking with hand weights but I was left carrying heavy weights. I had read an article about walking poles and decided to buy this pair. I was first embarrassed to use them in my neighborhood so I went out early on a Sunday morning. I quickly got over the embarrassment and use them every time I walk. I love them and they are exactly what I was looking for. They are light weight and easy to use. I would recommend watching the instruction video all the way through first and then watch it again to get it setup. Also, you will want a water bottle with you as you do get a good workout and hydration is important. You may consider buying a belt designed to hold a water bottle. Great upper body workout - this will be HUGE once word is out I bought Macalau poles (online) then thank god I went to an IDEA fitness convention where Leki experts had a booth. I found out that my online seller had no clue what he sold me. What I really needed was the Travelers poles for my use (NYC walking) .. Macalau poles have pointy ends used in trekking with dirt and rock trails. I am returning my Macalaus since I bought the Traveler poles from the convention. I learned a lot from Leki demos in person, but here at Amazon you are paying 20 bucks less for Traveler poles--- lucky for you! With that being said, you really do need instruction in how to use them. Most people will not realize that Traveler poles arm positioning is not what you think. You say to yourself: Why would you need someone to teach you to walk with poles? Well, because different poles have different arm movements. With Macalau, the arm bends a lot on every stride.. but with Travelers, the arm doesnt bend much at all and you are landing the poles BEHIND your stride. That is why the pole tips have a slant.. you are going to push off with an almost straight arm. This enables you to activate the back shoulder muscles which improve posture. The one reviewer seemed to think these poles were going to make his walking easier. These are made for fitness.. yes they take strain off the knees because you are pushing against gravity with the poles; they may assist with stability if you have those kind of problems, but you buy Travelers poles to work MORE muscles and burn more calories.. not to make walking easier! I bought mine to make walking a more balanced workout for the hour I spend. These poles are expensive, but what is staying healthy and preventing osteoporosis worth to you? This is a fun cross training workout and I will probably walk with my poles LONG after I give up step class, martial arts, and bellydance. For city use, these Travelers are a great investment. I telescope them down, put in my backpack and have my hands free for getting groceries on the way home. If money is an issue, buy the fitness poles that do not telescope and save yourself about 25 bucks. Note: It takes about 8 practice sessions to get the pole thing right so that eventually they dont drag but sort of aerodynamically lift before they come down again, so if it feels awkward at first, it will get better. Walker or hike, they're the best! I purchased my Nordic poles about a month ago. While technique may seem self-explanatory, I appreciated the informational CD that came with them. It thoroughly covered how to use them properly and the benefits of using poles while hiking or walking. I have found that using them during my walk slows down the pace just a little bit, but definitely engages the upper body in cardio and I end up having a much better workout. My arms are firming after just a few weeks, no more Grandma arms!!! I really enjoy using the poles and feel they truly benefit my workout. I never walk without them! Hype or Hope? I am not yet convinced that this product provides any significant benefits over unassisted walking. There is a small degree of stress reduction when going uphill and having the arms participate more in the walking activity surely must be beneficial. It may just take longer to assess the overall benefits. I have only been using the poles for a month as I write this. I do believe that someone is making a whole pile of money on this item though, as the materials used in the poles cannot be worth more than $5-10. Hype or Hope? All it claimed to be. Easy to use. One drawback for me: The instruction manual is on DVD -- ONLY! Hard to refer to as you get started using the poles. I ended up practicing with them in my living room so I could practice as I watched the DVD. It worked -- sort of. Leki It took a little time to get the walking poles setup. I suggest marking your position if you dont have a number to return to if a pole happens to loosen while hiking its just faster so you want need to stop and do the measuring again. I use them almost everyday and since they are adjustable I can take them anywhere. This is my first set I would recommend this product. Terrific walking aid I used my Leki Travellers for a hike across northern Spain to Santiago Campostela, about 160 miles total. I have a torn ACL in one knee and arthritis in feet/ankles. Combined the Leki poles with Z-Coil walking shoes and had no problems (unlike several fellow walkers with normal knees & feet). Im sold on these sticks; they really DO relieve the burden on knees and ankles. Theyre light and folded easily so they went into even smallish luggage. They improve the workout with upper body exercise...I just fly! Theyre my best walking buddies. Walking Poles make working out a complete breeze!! I purchased my Leki Nordic Walking Poles because I read somewhere that these poles would reduce stress on my hips and knees while walking. That is totally true! I have a congenital malformation in my right hip which prevents me from ever being able to run or jog as a means for exercise. I do love to walk, but was hindered by the pain from my right hip. By using the walking poles, I am able to walk quickly without any pain at all, even though I am actually using more muscle groups than I would if walking without the use of poles. Walking alone, a person only uses about 50% of the large muscle groups. Walking with LEKI Nordic Walking poles, one will use up to 90% of all the large muscle groups; this turns a simple 30 minute walk into a full-body workout without stress!! I would not walk any other way now that I own my LEKI poles!! Great Walking Sticks Love my new LEKI. They are lightweight, pack easy and have both pavement and off road tips. I use them on my daily walks. My husband loved them so much, I am getting him a pair for Christmas. |
