![]() Lafuma Warm'n Light 600g 40-Degree Down Mummy Sleeping Bag By: Lafuma Average Rating: 5.0 Total Reviews: 1 More Information Good bag, but . . . This bag is good for bike touring - my intended use. And it might serve as in insert for my three season bag for winter camping. It gets five stars for utility and exceptional value. The problem, though not the fault of Lafuma or of this particular bag, is this: Most sleeping bags sold in the U.S. are claimed to be as much as 20 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than they really are. The Lafuma-France website lists the minimum comfort level for this bag to be 11 degrees Celsius (52 degrees F.) for inexperienced users. For experienced users, the minimum comfort level is 8 degrees C. (46 degrees F.). The extreme lower limit is -5 degrees C. (24 degrees F.). At that point, the experienced user will feel uncomfortably cold but survive; the inexperienced user risks hypothermia after a few hours. All three ratings are according to Norme Francaise standard tests using a heat-producing manikin dressed in long underwear and socks. The French rating system is good; it served as the basis for the new European Norm standards for sleeping bags. Wish we had them here. As it is, American bags tested by the Europeans indicated that the claimed comfort level was overstated by so much that an unsuspecting user could experience hypothermia. If you want more information, check out European Outdoor Group and a Mammut subsidiary, Ajungilak (downloads). There is a handy chart that will tell you how warm a bag likely is by comparing its weight and fill. Sleep well. |
