![]() MSR Alpine Gourmet Cookset By: MSR Average Rating: 4.0 Total Reviews: 4 More Information Light and Useful The pots are nice sized and fairly light to carry. We are normally hikers so the lighter the better. Lightweight, compact and very practical This has been a great addition to our camping and traveling gear. Its very lightweight, compact and yet sturdy. The tea kettle works extremely well, and the sizes of the pots and pans make cooking up various dishes on-the-go an easy affair. Much better price here than at REI. Definitely recommended. Misses the mark. Ho hum. In my opinion, the design of this item defeats the whole purpose of buying a "camping" cookset. For me, the dealbreaker was that this cookset does not seal together into a single unit. Every other camping cookset Ive seen nests nicely together, with the largest pot forming a "box" and the largest pan forming a "lid" which can be fastened to the box to form a well-contained, closed kit. This is especiall useful if you dont have the option of giving it a good washing while youre out in the field. While the set does nest, its not designed to close neatly together. Instead, the set comes with a mesh bag with drawstring to hold everything. Whoopdie doo. A rather small design change would have allowed the set to close, making it a far superior product. Frankly, I can buy a few small pots and pans and get a mesh bag to stick them in on my own - for less than 80 bucks. So if they cant give me the slickness of a typical camping cookset for twice the price of a typical camping cookset, what on earth is the point? Materials quality? I guess it would have to be. One thing I will give them is that the quality of the pots and pans is very good. But for missing the whole point of a "camping cookset," for not giving me what I really need in the field, and for charging a premium for an inadequate product, Im afraid I must return this item. Excellent quality! You really cant go wrong with MSR Stainless mess kits. Simple, sturdy, effective. Stainless is a pain to clean, but bring some steel wool and youll be good. Cooks much more evenly than anything else out there. You dont have to worry about scraping off the teflon and you wont burn your stuff or break the bank like with titanium. |
