Ive had the refillable Brunton Glorb for half a year or so. The idea is great and, when the mantle is whole, the lantern works well. But...installing the mantle is frustrating because it rarely shapes up well enough to reassemble the lantern. When the mantle does burn on correctly, it is much too fragile to be of much use backpacking. Im on mantle #12 and the cost of replacement mantles is getting close to the cost of the lantern. The candle mode works okay without a mantle, but candles are smaller, lighter, and brighter, so whats the point? All in all, I wish I had returned it. The other small, mantle lanterns I own do not share this problem. What a shame, the components of the Glorb are all made well. On: 2004-09-19
Ive used this lantern on 2 backpacking trips so far. On the first one it worked great - easy to start and very bright. But I destroyed one (of the 2 shipped with the product) while learning to light it the first time. The second worked great on my trip, but it dissolved on the way back home bouncing in the car. For the second trip, guess what - no mantles! They are a bit hard to find so when you do, buy plenty!
