Stanley 24 oz. Classic Vacum Food Bottle     On: 2008-11-22

I have 2 other Stanley Vacuum bottles , but they are for liq., and have never failed to keep contents hot or cold. they are the very best. The Stanley 24 oz.Classic Vacuum Food Bottle that I purchased from your company I used on a hunting trip to Saskatchewan Canada, for Stew, Chile, and soup, the weather at the time was very cold and the Stanley 24 oz. bottle kept my contents hot all day and night. I would recommend this product to every one on there deer stand , or were ever they are and demand hot food . Great job Stanley, Keep up with your great products. Thank you. Jim Lima

MADE IN CHINA!     On: 2008-11-08

UNBELIEVABLE! MADE IN CHINA!

The stopper feels very light--theres not much weight to it. The seal looks decent, though.

Food says hot on the coldest days (Central Pennsylvania) at least until lunchtime. Ive never tested it to a really long period of time, though.
AWESOME!!!     On: 2008-06-29

I use this bottle on my job as a park ranger. Before work, I pour boiling water in it for instant coffee when I need a pick me up. From time to time, I dont always have a chance to make my cup o joe. In those instances I dont empty the bottle until the next morning. Always to my amazement, the water is still boiling in the bottle the day after...thats 18 hours!!!! Very impressive!
Absolutely the Best! - Stanley Does it Again!     On: 2008-05-01

Stanley thermoses have been a part of our family for generations, going back to my great grandfather. Stanley has a reputation for ruggedness and high-quality, and this Stanley 24 oz. Vacuum Food Jar lives-up to that reputation. I had one that had been given to me several years ago, and it wasnt keeping my food hot for very long, so I contacted Stanley to let them know and the immediately offered to send me a new one. I received the new one and that is the one Im reviewing here.

First of all this is a vacuum food jar, just like Stanleys thermoses. Vacuum flask technology is the best technology for preventing thermal attrition (keeping your hot drinks hot and your cold drinks cold). Additionally, the newest ones employ "Char-Vac" technology, which consists of the vacuum technology coupled with an additional charcoal layer for added insulation. The results are astounding! I enjoy my food very hot. When I received this I decided to test it. I tempered it with boiling water, then added hot water (208 degrees Fahrenheit) and found that it kept my water was still steaming hot (not lukewarm) after 8 hours! I didnt test beyond that but the box claims it stays hot for 12 hours and I wouldnt doubt it.

The entire food jar is stainless steel, and very solidly built - like a tank. The screw-on stopper is also insulated and seals very nicely. The stopper is made of a very strong plastic and is also very solid. The cup screws-on nice and tightly and serves excellently as a bowl for your soup or food. The handle is the same kind of Stanley handle we all have come to know, and it feels strong and comfortable.

Bringing your food in this jar is easy and convenient. It is easy to clean and sterilize, and with the over 2-3/4" wide mouth, filling it and pouring out your food is a breeze.

Here are some specifics on the food jar that I wish Amazon/Stanley would have given, so I will:

Height: 10-1/2 inches
Diameter: 3-3/8 inches
Circumference: 10-3/5 inches
Composition of food jar interior: Stainless Steel (unpainted)
Composition of food jar exterior: Stainless Steel (painted)
Composition of Cap/Top: Plastic/Polymer (with insulation)
Thermal Attrition Resistance: Vacuum and charcoal ("Char-Vac")
Maximum Capacity (Volume): 1-1/2 Pint (24 fluid ounces or 3/16 Gallon)
Country of Origin: Made in China (not USA, sadly).
Cleaning Method: Hand Wash Only [Not Dishwasher Safe]
Not Microwave Safe - Do Not Microwave
Guarantee: Lifetime Guarantee
Replacement Parts: Cup (SS04), Handle (RH-98), Stopper (RS45)
[for parts go to: www.stanley-pmi.com]

Although I own many Stanley thermoses, this is the first of Stanleys new vacuum flasks that I had to have replaced. I must say that I am impressed with Stanleys Lifetime Guarantee - Stanley really stands behind their products and that makes it worth paying a little more for a true Stanley product - not to mention its amazing quality. It is definitely a food jar that can be used in offices, at school/college, commuting to work, on the job where ruggedness is required, and out on the trail. It is also a great way to be more environmentally responsible because food doesnt need to be reheated (conserves energy) and it is reusable/refillable (not wasted packaging).

The only drawbacks I see is that it is made in China instead of the U.S.A. Personally, Id happily pay double the price for one that was made in U.S.A.. Also, it needs a place to carry a spoon. Ive seen some food jars that incorporate a folding spoon that snaps on the top of the stopper. That would be nice to see with this food jar.

In any case, a good Stanley product is worth the investment. Stanleys famous Lifetime Guarantee is legendary and when you see how solid and well-built this product is, you can see why Stanley can offer such a great guarantee. I am so happy with this food jar that I am going to recommend it to all of my family and friends.

Stanley San Easy Dribble Stopper.     On: 2008-02-18

I bought a "Stanley" thermos and found it to be made in china not the USA. I tried it any way and they no longer have the pour through stopper and the replacements will not fit the new chinese bottles. They call the new stoppers you have to half unscrew, to pour, an Easy Pour but it should be called easy dribble. It dribbles when you pour and it leaks when its tight and it doesnt keep coffee hot more than a couple hours.

No thanks on the replacement. I got my money back on a return and purchased TWO, GOOD, real Stanely thermos on the used market for the cost of the junk new chinese one.
Made in CHINA     On: 2008-01-07

From the Amazon Description:

The distinctive Stanley bottle is an American Icon that still works as hard today as it did nearly 100 years ago. Stanley... Built for Life.

This AMERICAN Icon is manufacted in CHINA.

I purchased mine based on a review that this was made in the USA posted in December. Mine arrived today and MADE in CHINA is stamped in the metal.

It would be so helpful if AMAZON would include the Country of Manufacture in the Features of the product rather than allow the above
which certainly implied (along with another reviewers positive statement) that the product was made in the USA.

I will gladly pay more for products that are manufactured in a country that believes in Human Rights and is not a tremendous polluter of our Earth.

Please Amazon, give us a bit more information.
Wish I'd bought this one first.     On: 2007-12-05

This is the second wide mouth thermos I have bought for myself this year.
The first was purchased on Ebay and it started to fail after only one week of use. Not to mention the fact that it never did do a good job of keeping my food hot.
Finally, the stopper cap on it developed a crack that made it impossible to seal the thermos. This lead to even more heat loss during the day. Because this was an off brand import, I was not able to buy a replacement stopper. (Even though I wasnt interested in throwing more good money after bad).
So, I did was I should have done in the first place. BUY A STANLEY.
Even with the fact that the Stanley cost twice as much to purchase, I believe it is a better deal.
In the first place, I keeps my soup so hot that I have to let it cool before eating it (after 6 1/2 hour).
Second if the cup or stopper get broken I will be able to easily be able to buy replacement part.
Plus the fact that the Stanley is make in the States. I kick myself for cheaping out and buying the China made thermos in the first place.
DONT make the same mistake I made.

BUY THE USA MADE, AND BETTER THERMOS THE FIRST TIME.

I wonder why the other reviewer had leaking problems - perhaps a bad silicon seal? I compared this in store to other products by thermos, no-names, etc, and it is one of the most solidly built food carry products Ive ever seen or used. I should have bought it years ago, and it would have saved hundreds of dollars via home-made lunches. And jeez, the worry that every time you put tupperware/ziplock lunches in your bag, something is going to leak - how much is that worth to put to rest forever? I used to wrap my food-carrying plastic wear in TWO plastic bags in case of inevitable leakage. Never again. This thing is solid.

I must admit, it appeals to my guy side, (see my bachelor-style typical lunch and dinner, below) with the hammered green siding and shiny metal parts. I think I sprouted a few extra hairs on my chest after I bought it. It looks like something you might dig out of the basement in your parents house, to which they would say, "Oh, that used to be your grandfathers, and I used it too. It still works." They could call it the Man-Jar. (Ladies, dont be afraid, the thermal properties are gender-blind, and green will be in this fall)

If you got dumped recently by your girlfriend (or wife, or mom, or whatever), this jar can help you in your process of manly rediscovery.

Despite the fact that spending money is something I generally discourage, this jar will actually help you save money in the long run.

You could carry it home late at night on the subway as a weapon. Heck, my cooking is a pretty dangerous payload.

Technical stuff:

I put a heated hamburger patty and microwaved (prev. frozen) vegetables into the container, with a thermometer. Started at 180 deg. F, and arrived at 140 deg. F four hours later.

I bought it before a 7-day road trip, living out of a cooler in the back of my car. I didnt eat a SINGLE crappy fast-food meal, and I didnt spend a dollar on anything but gas.* All healthy, pre-cooked, home-style, k-dog-style stuff. Get yourself a Corning wear microwave bowl with a heavy-duty fridge plastic cover, and you have a home-cooked meal at every rest stop.

Ive put boiling water in it, let it sit overnight, with the top off, and it was still warm in the morning.

* And a hotel. And a speeding ticket. I musta been so excited to have this food bottle. Damn ohio pigs.
Doesn't maintain temp, handle falls off     On: 2006-09-28

I own two, and have had problems with both. Even when pre-heated, coffee/ tea is luke warm 3 hours later. Sturdy product--should be for it is pretty heavy

5/4/07 update-- I think it is important to mention that shortly after the original review was posted, Stanley contacted me to offer a replacement. I thought this was pretty cool. I would add another star if Amazon would let me
