Great price and features     On: 2008-08-17

I bought this backpack so I could live out of it for 3 weeks traveling in Europe. This backpack is great because it perfectly fits the dimensions limited for carry-on bags on flights within the EU but still has a lot of volume for storage. It is comfortable and with the waist belt it distributes the weight very well so that I had no problem carrying the bag around on my back all day. I havent tried the shoulder strap but it appears to be another convenient feature.

I ripped one of the gray carabiner loops on the front of the backpack when I grabbed it to slide the backpack across the carpet but I have had no other problems with splitting or tearing. I did not apply much force when the loop ripped so I believe it would not have been able to hold a water bottle or anything else very well either. The bag overall seems slightly less durable than other bags I have used (Jansport, The North Face) but it worked very well on my trip and I think it will work well for future traveling, and should last a very long time as I am only using it occasionally. But I will stick to my messenger bag for day-to-day use.
Good quality but lots of straps!     On: 2008-06-15

I purchased this bag from Amazon for $59.99, not from a Marketplace seller. I guess Amazon is out of stock because I am not seeing that page anymore. However, under the description page existing at the time I bought mine, the headline was "High Sierra 21" Passport Travel Pack" and the description had its measurements as being 21"x 14". I am seeing more accurate descriptions of the size from other sellers, such as the one above. The bag I received measured 22.5 inches in length and was 15 inches wide--a bit larger than the description and cutting it a bit close on what an airline will allow in a carry-on bag, which is what I purchased it for. For that reason, I am returning it and will get something a bit smaller. While I am returning it, I gave it four stars because it is a really well constructed bag and would be fantastic for backpacking.

If you are considering this as a carry-on, keep the following points in mind--It is borderline too large to be a carry-on and was quite heavy even empty. While it is versatile in how you can carry it, this versatility means it has too many straps to contend with (I could envision myself wrestling with those in the confines of a small space on the plane) and the waist strap is just in the way. I see this as a pack for someone backpacking across Europe (or maybe flying first class with larger seats, you lucky duck), not flying coach. It is just too large for that. :(
Great for hikking, lots of space     On: 2008-04-26

I bought this to replace a broken, smaller bag and Im loving it. Its really comfortable even fully loaded. It has plenty of space, and it was big enough to pack an Xbox360 with all the cables and power source, 2 controls and enough cloth for a 4 day trip in winter!! Nothing but the best from it.

Highly recommended for the price tag!
excellent travel pack     On: 2008-02-09

I ordered this bag for a 2 week vacation in Ireland. Im glad that I chose this one because it turned out to be a great bag. Lots of room for all my gizmos and other misc items. Loved how you could turn it from a backpack to a duffel bag. Having the shoulder strap was a nice feature. I only wish that the outside of the bag had more pockets, but all in all a wonderful bag.
Ideal for short trips     On: 2008-01-04

Took two of these on a recent trip, and I was very happy. Im a girl with a small frame and had no problems carrying this - another reviewer here feels differently though, so perhaps it depends on your needs. I didnt take this hiking and cant vouch for its performance there. Great for backpacking travel though, if your trip is relatively short and you want to travel light. Very sturdy and survived being checked into airport luggage on the way back. It could use a few more pockets, but otherwise I was very happy and would definitely go for High Sierra again; I doubt Id pay the exorbitant list price, but on Amazon this is an excellent deal.
heavy then what I think, great design     On: 2008-01-01

I love the idea the button can be expanded, jut the weight for a woman to use it for a long time, maybe will be a heavy thing to use.
Versatile pack     On: 2007-09-26

Good quality pack, but not sized for smaller person or women. Will look for something else that fits a smaller frame. Also, shoulder straps rub on neck and fabric is irritating - had to wrap with softer material.
