This is my first experience with CamelBak and it is a good one. Pack is obviously high quality and roomy. Plenty of pockets, straps, etc. to stash stuff and attach helmet. Fits great on my back for bike riding, and the extra straps that go around your waist for stability are removable so they arent flopping around if not used. I also like how they include Velcro stays that control excess strapping so it also is not flopping around. Perfect padded pocket at the top of the bag for my iPod touch. This pack will definitely last.
One of the best bike purchases I've made!     On: 2008-06-09

Ive always been a fan of Camelbak products but have tried many others as well. This bag seals the deal for me, though! I use this for my daily commute which runs about 20 miles one way and I carry light clothes, wallet, phone, keys, etc. It has plenty of room without being too big. Its really about the perfect size for a commuter or for day-long rides.

Its very comfortable with good adjustments available. In fact, its the most comfortable hydration pack Ive worn, even when its packed pretty full. The Air Director air flow design works very well and keeps your back fairly well ventilated. I think they thought out the pockets very well, also. It seems to have the right combination of a big roomy storage area along with a variety of pockets for keys, gloves, wallets, etc. I also like how you can allow the main storage to expand or cinch it up for a sleeker, more compact bag if youre not using the space.

One little thing a lot of people dont notice on bike bags is where they place the carrying strap/handle. Camelbak smartly places it slightly lower (not directly on top) and more on the front side. This is important for us mountain bikers who often duck under a tree branch or two. If the handle is sticking up it can get caught very easy and pull you right off your bike. Because of that, Ive cut them off on other bags. I dont have to worry about that on this bag.

The water bag and related components are typical high-quality Camelbak components. They dont disappoint. Some folks have commented that they dont like the access for filling the water bag. I havent found it to be cumbersome at all and I would rather fill the bag from the opposite side of the storage in case I accidentally spill some water. You can also remove the bag quite easily and fill it that way. It works well.

VERY smartly designed bag and I HIGHLY recommend it!

Plenty of room & durable     On: 2007-11-13

this pack has room for 2 full size textbooks and a spiral bound notebook, with little pockets for things like ipods and such...plus the water! i can carry everything i need for a long day at school and stay hydrated. i wish the zippers were a little more heavy duty, but it feels rugged enough to last a while.it fits nice and tight and theres plenty of padding to make the pack feel light and natural - almost like youre not even wearing it.i would recommend this for someone who wants the camelbak water handy and to be able to put a few things in the bag. if youre looking to put a lot of things in the bag, get something bigger.

great pack     On: 2007-10-19

Very happy with my H.A.W.G., very well built, lots of compartments, not to big, but large enough to carry everything you would need on day hikes.
Got a good price due to the color choice, which looks just fine.

No review can adaquately praise the Camelbak, but here are some tips on how to choose which one to get.     On: 2007-05-17

There are very few products of a specific brand for which there are no substitutes, and the Camelbak is one such rare product.

First, some bullet points of praise for the Camelbak:

-They improve this thing every year, and yet the old ones are fantastic as well.
-Weight is negligable--the actual backpack and bladder are truly feather light.
-Even without ice or other insulation, cold drinks stay cold and hot drinks stay fairly hot for hours. Ice stays icy--it effectively wont melt.

Get the H.A.W.G. if youre a year round, all weather athlete (hiking, cycling, skiing) because it will give you enough room for your spare jacket, hat, gloves, thermafleece, polar fleece or just about anything short of a weekend outings worth of stuff.

If you only go out in nice, warm weather then get a Camelbak M.U.L.E.--enough room for your tools, sun screen, a camera, and thats it.

The H.A.W.G. will pack small with the compression straps pulled in, and still have plenty of room for picking up a bag of groceries on the way home. Its the perfect pack for a day trip, picnic, or going to events in a major city.

BOTTOM LINE: I really cant say enough about how good this item is, except that Id be very hesitant to buy or recommend any other brand of hydration pack. If you want a hydration pack thats also a smartly designed, great backpack, then you have to get a Camelbak--there is nothing similar.

Excellent fitting pack. Secure to the body, yet large enough to carry 100 oz water plus cycling jacket, shoe covers, nutritional items and anything else you may anticipate for that next century ride.
perfect for a long hike     On: 2006-08-26

i recently purchased the Camelbak HAWG for use during my hike of Halfdome at Yosemite. the HAWG is capable of carrying 3 liters of water, thus eliminating the need for bulky bottles. i filled my HAWG about 2/3 of the way with ice and the water was kept cold (with the exception of the water in the exposed intake tube) all the way up. even at the end of the 10 hour hike, the water was still relatively cool. the HAWG also has excellent cargo capacity, and i was able to bring along a windbreaker, extra socks, first aid, snacks, and misc gear. i highly recommend this item for long hikes or rides
