![]() Casio Pathfinder Solar Triple Sensor Black Resin Watch - PAG70-1V By: Casio Average Rating: 5.0 Total Reviews: 4 More Information Great Watch for Value Besides the PAG701V, I own two other Pathfinders: the PAG-80 V1 and PAG-80 V3. To start, let me say that I have own Omegas, Seikos, Citizen, Timex, Sunnto and Tissot pocket watches, but by far my favorites are the CASIO Pathfinders. In honesty, I purchased the PAG701V because at a recent business function in London, an associate commented on how big my PAG-80 V3 was. So I purchased the PAG-70 mainly as dressier watch. So the positive... First off the size of the PAG-70 is approximately 6 mm smaller in width than the PAG-80 models. With that, there is some compromise on functionality, but let me save that for a moment. Additionally, I believe the watch could actually be worn by an average size woman. The PAG-70 will probably fit well on anyone over 5 feet 5 inches tall. I am not intending to slight anyone smaller, but the smaller the frame, the larger this watch will look. The PAG-70 has a stainless steel face. That is slightly uncommon for the Pathfinder, but looks very sharp, sleek and modern. From a layout standpoint, the day and date functions are better displayed and it is easy to toggle back a forth between the Day and Month - Day features. Additionally, since the face is stainless steel, the slight chips normally obtained on the PAG-80 model (especially just on top of the "Adjust" button will not occur on the PAG-70. That is one of the best features of this model I like. The PAG-70 is also solar powered and requires no battery replacement. On average, in direct sunlight, one can charge the unit in five (5) minutes, about a half hour in normal indoor lighting. The compass mirrors the PAG-80 almost to the degree. There is a slight variation of 10% difference between the PAG-70 compass and the triple sensor within the PAG-80. But if you need something to point you in the right direction, you will get there. Only the more sophisticated nut like me will take out an actual compass and compare the two, but hey, thats just me. But if you are looking for a more robust and exact measurement, then the PAG-80 is the watch for you. If you are a business travel who exercises by walking around at the local hotel or a family person looking for a watch that will give good directional insight, you will have no problem with the PAG-70. Altitude meter reading is terrific. Like PAG-80, this watch has both the ability to display altitude in feet or meters. But unlike the PAG-80, this watch can display the altitude in both feet and meters at the same time. This is truly a unique feature of this watch and something I wish was on my PAG-80 series. Drawbacks... As compared to the PAG-80 models, there is no world time. Having to travel across the world, I have come to relay on the world timer as gauge for my home time and current local time. I miss this feature on the PAG-70. But for those who stay within the US, there is little difficulty between changing the time zones during travel across the country. Still, it would rather cool to have the ability to look the current time in another part of the world, but that is a tradeoff of options. The watch is only 5bar or 50 meters waterproof. The different levels of water resistance as expressed in meters are only theoretical. They refer to the depth at which a watch will keep out water if both watch and the water are perfectly motionless, These conditions, of course, are never met in the real swimmers or divers world. in real life, the movement of the wearers arm through the water increases the pressure on the watch dramatically; so it cant be worn to the depths indicated by lab testing machines. The PAG-80 is 100 meters rated versus the PAG-70 at 50 meters. In other words, this watch is at best, only rated for basic pool swimming. However, because the face and crown of the watch is stainless steel, if you hit the side of pool with this watch, you will by highly upset for a long time, because this watch will scratch. The barometer and barometer graph on the PAG-70 works nothing the PAG-80. Because of its size, the barometric graphing capabilities of PAG-70 lack severely. In essence, after using the watch for a week or so and comparing the readings against the PAG-80, I found the graphing ability is different. This does not make it wrong, just different. From my perspective, it would be difficult to tell on the PAG-70 of weather changes unless you check the barometer regularly. Where the PAG-80 is perpetual display, the PAG-70 is more a general display; and one from my perspective that makes it hard to rely upon without checking the barometric pressure regularly. Additionally, after comparing the barometric readings of PAG-70 against the PAG-80, I found my unit was off about .15 inHg, which is not much for the average user. But to a watch nut like, things like this drive me nuts. Alarms: The alarms in both the PAG-80 and PAG-70 could not be functionally used as an alarm clock. They can be used to alert you through the day of regular appointments, but do not use them as sleep aids by which you can wake up to. For that purpose, get a travel alarm or wake-up call. So, overall, I like the PAG-70. It is sleek, stylish and has the right flavor to be both a professional watch as well as sports watch. I have worn my PAG-80 in the mountains in Southern Chile and the PAG-70 in London, England. In both cases, each watch was most valuable asset. They performed extremely well and provided more information about direction, weather, and time. My suggestion, while the PAG-70 lacks a few of the features common in my PAG-80, I do not regret my purchase. I believe you wont either. Wade Koeller Feels a little bulky, but outstanding functionality Although the watch looks a little bulky i think at first sight i gave it 4 stars because of the intelligent functions in it. The users manual is very handy and well written too indeed. What i am most amazed about it seems is that the watch is capable of recharging itself at office light. The functions are also very easy to use. Added comment : +the thermometer shows your skins temperature... +the light button hurts your hand when you bend your wrist, etc, when cycling +the light drawns the battery when you drive at night because the light comes up every time you move your hand... The watch is a great concept but the final product is a spoilage Happy Husband I purchased this for my husband for Christmas. He loved it. Great doing business with you. Best price and fast shipping. Nice Watch I am happy with my purchase. I wanted a watch with all of the features (compass, baromoter, thermometer, etc), but was afraid the watch might be too large for my wrist (since alot of watches with similar features tend to be very large). I was pleasantly surprised when I received the watch to see that it was not too large and did look nice on my wrist. Overall, I think it is a very good watch. The instruction manual (although quite thick) is very well written and easy to follow. |
