Too short for an average hiker     On: 2007-05-02

I bought the marmot EOS for a thru hike of the Appalachian trail. Being 60 I thought that the 82 inch floor plan would be plenty of room, plus the weight was a fair bit less than the MSR hubba (which I had also looked at).

Unfortunately, and inexplicably, the EOS is unable to fit a 6 foot person without either their head or feet touching the fabric (which is a big no-no in double wall tents). You sleeping bag will add roughly an additional 6 inches of loft, plus the tent walls jut in before gently following the main support pole. The actual usable floor space was greatly reduced because of this.

If you are under 6 foot then this tent would make a great buy. Not only is it lighter than its main competitor (the hubba), but it is also a good bit cheaper. The vestibule is large enough to fit either a good size pack, or a dog and a smaller pack. There is enough room to sit up inside, and not much risk of touching the sides of the tent, unless you have a wide girth.

I would suggest all potential buyers to check out the MSR Hubba before buying this tent. The price and weight are a bit more, but Ive know a lot more hubba owners that are still happy with their purchase even after 2,000 miles of use.
