Works for me     On: 2008-02-17

Being a Zippo collector, I was excited when I discovered that they were producing a butane lighter so I promptly ordered one. I have used many butane lighters in my life so I was interested to see how well Zippos worked. The case of the lighter seems to be standard Zippo construction. Opening the lid, the thing that stands out to me the most is that although the lighter is butane, Zippo kept the flint wheel rather than using the piezioelectric spark producer found on most gas lighters. Piezio lighters can become an exercise in frustration when thier element gets out of alignment. Flint change for this lighter is a very easy procedure.
So far my lighter has produced a strong flame through many fillings with no problems. I am careful to use good-quality butane to prevent clogs. I do miss a flame-adjustment knob, which Zippo saw fit to not include on this lighter. Fuel consumption seems to be comparable to most butane lighters.
In general, I am very happy with this lighter. It does what I want it to do. Only time will tell how durable it will be in the long run. So far so good...

Pros:
Flint wheel
Zippo bullet-proof construction
Lifetime warranty

Cons:
No flame adjustment

Bad, Bad Zippo!     On: 2008-01-30

I bought this from the Sweetbriar Cigar shop in Columbus, GA. It was kind of spontaneous but I was very excited when I first heard about Zippo entering the butane market. I paid around $50.00 with tax and immediately took it to a local cigar bar. I know for a fact the owner of the cigar shop filled it prior to me leaving but at the end of the night the thing was empty, after lighting about five cigars and several ladies cigarettes. I couldnt believe it! I was so disappointed. I had the bartender fill it up once more but then the flame was hardly high enough to light a pantella! So about two days later I took it back to the shop, and kudos for him he took it back without one complaint, maybe it helped I bought about $30.00 worth of cigars when I bought the lighter. So all in all I am not going to recommend this product to anyone. Sorry Zippo but if I were you I would not claim this thing to be made in the U.S.A.
The modern zippo     On: 2007-11-11

The Dusted Chrome Torch Flame Zippo Blu is all that a zippo should be and no longer has the smell of lighter fluid. My only concern is that part of the mechanism is plastic. I hope it has the durability of a traditional zippo
I'm not going for a gas powered Zippo.     On: 2007-10-29

I read the reviews and I tend to trust them, though I DO NOT OWN THIS PRODUCT to be fair. My parents owned a pipe and tobacco shop, and ALL gas lighters were just a royal pain for them, no matter how expensive. They hated to sell them, but customers demanded them. I owned several gas lighters of all kinds, and they were all very poor. On the other hand, the liquid fuel Zippos, like a good martini, almost seemed like a staple of civilization!! I collect Zippos...and those dang liquid fuel things work all the time every time!! And when they need a new flint, a dime is the only tool you need to get a new flint in the lighter. Why they went to gas, I have no idea. Very, very few things in life cannot be impoved upon, but the simple, humble, bullet proof Zippo (liquid fuel) is surely one of them. How many timeless products can you think of? Get a REAL zippo and a tin of fuel...be happy the way your dad was.

Don't Waste Your Money !     On: 2007-10-28

This thing doesnt work, plain and simple. It is surprising that
Zippo would put out such an inferior product. Surprising and
disappointing. Thank God I got mine for free through a cigarette promotion. It works maybe 1 out of 30 tries !! And theyre charging
$40 for this ?? DONT BUY ONE, YOULL BE SORRY !!!!!

This lighter looks good, but Zippo should stick to what they know. Its a piece of junk, plain and simple. The store where I bought it wouldnt take it back an hour after I bought it even though it just simply doesnt work. I contacted Zippo and they were somewhat rude via email, but finally sent me a post-paid envelope so that I could send the lighter in for repairs. This is a BRAND NEW lighter, but rather than just replace it given the problems Ive had, they finally send me an email today (over a week after I sent the lighter in) that tells me it will take 3-4 weeks for the repair.

My buddy has a Colibri lighter that costs less than half what I spent for this horrible product, and it works flawlessly every time. This lighter works maybe one time out of ten tries.

Maybe when I get it back from repairs it will be better, but based upon my experience Id tell you to buy a Colibri or some other brand. Zippo may be an American icon, but it looks to me like they dont have a clue when it comes to torch-style lighters.
