Product Description: The urban-inspired Sprinter opens up the dark for those whose running isn’t restricted to daytime hours. This rechargeable streets-to-trails runner’s headlamp features excellent fore-aft balance and a super low profile, which minimizes bouncing and shifting with your stride. A red rear strobe offers safety around cars while a strong, ovalized beam keeps your vision focused on the path ahead. Where to Buy
Reviews Perfect! by: on: 25-Mar 2010 I use this headlamp for trail running and it is unbelievably PERFECT. Very lightweight, extremely bright, runs a long time on each charge, and REALLY helps with visibility on the trail. I'm always concerned about getting run over by cyclists, and the blinking red light in back puts me at ease. Don't even think about it -- buy it now! I guarantee you'll be delighted. Bright and light by: on: 18-Mar 2010 I've been using the Black Diamond Sprinter Headlamp for a month now on several runs a week lasting 30 to 60 minutes. It is light and BRIGHT. Its been worn over a head sock and a running hat. You can barely tell you have it on and the light brightness is sufficient at most any setting. My only complaint is that you can blind other runners with it when you look them in the eyes. Even on the lowest setting you have to be careful and make sure you avoid looking at other runners directly. Battery life is excellent. I've not run the batteries down yet and haven't charged it for the last 3 runs and its still works. My biggest wish is that the dimmer be a little easier to use. It seems to me you have to hold the switch down a little too firmly to dim the light. I've discovered that it is so easy to take on and off that I just take it off and make light adjustments rather than try to dim the lights or turn it off while wearing it. I highly recommend this running light. Expensive, but great headlamp! by: on: 16-Mar 2010 I bought this because I run on an urban trail after work that has both runners and pedal bikers who are commuting from home to work. The bikers are mixing transportation and excercise and are usually going fast. With the speed differential between runners and bikers and the dark trail in the winter, I felt like the purchase was a cheap insurance policy as long as the headlamp performs as advertised. The last thing I need is to train for a marathon for 3 months and then get knocked out of the race by a bike crashing into me from behind. I have not been disappointed in this lamp. The design and build quality are excellent. The front LED throws down huge amounts of light on the trail in front, protecting you from turning an ankle. I can see myself using it for hiking at night with great results. The headlight in front and blinker in the rear announce your position to everyone on the trail in a way that no one could fail to see. With the low profile and light weight design, the thing becomes an extension of your body and you soon forget it's there. A couple of minor issues, which are no big deal. The front switch controls several functions including the dimming control and the strobe feature. The switch provides only a small amount of tactile feedback, but you have to have your finger positioned perfectly to get it to work. I usually have to take my gloves off to get my finger in the perfect spot. There is also no "clicking" action to tell you that you activated it. It takes what I think is a heavy amount of pressure to activate. On the other hand, this is probably a design feature. Most pieces of portable electronics these days have a way to prevent the thing from turning itself on in your gym bag or airplane luggage so the battery isn't dead when you need it. I had to reread the manual carefully, to figure out how to use both features. With the headlamp on your head, the strobe is wildly distracting, almost to the point of making you sick. I would never use it except perhaps to take it off and have a safety or emergency strobe. The dimming feature is great. It's worth having to prolong battery life. All in all a great product. Something like this is only expensive if you don't use it much or it does not perform well. Neither is the case for me. Highly recommended. Decent lamp, but overpriced and bulky by: on: 15-Mar 2010 I own several head lamps and this one is both my least favorite and most expensive. I purchased this headlamp knowing that Black Diamond makes great products, but I have been disappointed. I run at night several times a week, so a decent headlamp is critical for safety. The Sprinter is uncomfortable to the point of being distracting while running. The battery pack in the back offers fore/aft balance with the light in the front, but the result is heavy and awkward in both appearance and feel. I am a 6'4" man, so I can deal with a little extra weight without much issue; however, I am constantly aware of this headlamp while I am wearing it, which can be quite annoying. At least this is for night usage--I would avoid being seen in this headgear during the day. To be fair, the lamp does work and the construction is solid. The LED output is quite bright and adjustable, and the rear blinking red light adds additional safety. However, the light level is slow to adjust via the button, since it is a potentiometer (dimmer switch). Changing light level while running is a pain. If you don't ever adjust light levels, you probably won't mind this nuisance. Overall, this is well-made product that is poorly designed for running. I must say that a Tikka at half the price with twice the usability is a wiser choice for a running lamp. Pros: LED brightness Quality Construction Rechargable battery Rear blinking red light Cons: Uncomfortable / heavy/ awkward Expensive Poor Usability View All Headlamps |
